Not to sure where to put this but figured this is a good start.

Over the last few years a lot of companies have introduced low cost 1850 and 1890 numbers to make ringing them cheaper for you the customer...

However in that time phone operators have introduced free local and national calls excluding 1850 and 1890 numbers...

So effectivly what has happened is it now actually costs people money to ring these 1850 and 1890 numbers.....

So if you look at a bill carefully next time before ringing you usually see another local number you can ring... Try this first....after all if you are one the right package it will be free.

An example of this is board gais....They have a 1850 number and listed beside it is an outside ireland number.... All you need to do is dial it and it wont cost you a cent...

How much will you save..... It will depend on how many calls you make...

For companies.... Companies need to ask themselves if paying for this line is now a waste of money....

another one to look out for is 0818 numbers, avoid if possible by calling local numbers instead

What really pisses me off is 1800 numbers that dont work from mobiles - ie you can't get through AT ALL.

I usually open up skype on my mobile and ring the UK freephone numbers for these retarded businesses.

What century are these companies operating from - and am I the only one who thinks home landlines make no sense in this day and age either?

Don't forget that with VOIP e.g. UPC a 1850 number is chargable (not considered a 'landline' whereas if you ring their national number it's free (assuming you have on e of the 'all landline calls free' type packages)

Thats my point... Most people are on a free local and national calls package... so it actually costs you now to call a utilities provider where as they use to be low cost....
