    Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions at to where I can get good value on buying two new front tyres for my Ford Focus in Dublin, including fitting them? There is some contrast in prices when you shop around, so just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations.

    Thanks!

Before buying a tyre, decide what to buy.

"What is the price of cheapest tyre for my car" is not a safe way to do tyre shopping.

There are very good cheap tyres but they are not cheapest ones like linglong, triangle, sunny stuff.

Go for proper asian brands for cheap tyres like Hankook, Kumho, Falken

Don't compare prices of entry level tyre of one brand and mid level tyre of another brand.

And you can't go wrong with brands like Bridgestone, dunlop, michelin etc but they will be pricey.

Check production date of tyre(brand doesn't matter) you are buying. It is on sidewall of the tyre in a rectangular like 1609=16th week of 2009.
Don't buy a tyre older than 6 month. Ask tyre place this before they put tyres on.

I had good prices from best price tyres in rathcoole but used once only.

    good luck

just replaced tyres on my car, cheapest place I could find was alloy-wheels.ie in blanchardstown, but they were a bit far for me to drive. also discount tyres, also in blanch, who do a mobile service as tyres4less.ie were good value.

after researching all the options, I decided to stick with well know brands.

Thanks for the suggestions! Think I will stick with the well known brands...better value in the long term. Going to check out the recommendations in Blanch, so thanks Lukester.

I am on the look out for a price on 185/55/16 for a nissan note 06 . IT has a set of continentals at the moment but they didnt seem to last long, also whats the downside if I got wider/higher ie:195-205/60-65/16 as these sizes seem to be more popular in a 16" wheel

    Thanks

They are both the same company, and I would recommend them, Ive bought all my tyres from them and they were always as cheap as buying online. Great service too.

    Using http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

    195/60 16 - Speedometer will read 5% low

    195/65 16 - Speedometer will read 8.2% low

    205/60 16 - Speedometer will read 7% low

    205/65 16 - Speedometer will read 10.3% low

If you are increasing the width, you need to reduce the profile if you want to maintain the rolling radius figure. This will usually make the ride harder.

Wider tyres will usually increase fuel consumption slightly, as rolling resistance will be increased.
