Type the words 'Cloud Strife' into Google and you get 630,000 results
Sephiroth gets a staggering 4.2 Million

Type 'Solid Snake' and you get 8.3 Million
    Liquid Snake gets just 330,000

From guest appearances in the likes of Super Smash Brothers and Kingdom Hearts to the occasional cameo appearance in spin off titles, action figures and other general merchandise - these characters have become household names

So going back, way back, to when these games first appeared for the PSX...who did you side with, who was your favourite, and what game would you say you had more time for?

WWSD! Liquid, Fox Die, the DARPA Chief and 'It Can't Be...' MGS was the game for me!

I was a final fantasy head. Making now apologies for it but I happily spent about two years of my life playing it :) Still have it on PSP and give it a lash every now and again.

Enjoyed it so much that I have told my kids that they don't get their own consoles until they complete the game :D

In saying that, I did really enjoy MGS too but FF7 was the big one for me :D

MGS was way better. FFVII was over rated had a poor story and cloud was a whiny emo pussy and even more so in the japanese version were he was modelled on the biggest pussy of them all Shinji Ikari from Evangelion. Snake on the other hand exuded awesome from every pore. If he wasn't kicking ass he was chatting up naomi and mei ling. What a hero.

I loved FF7, and played it to death when I had it, highly addictive gaming.

But MGS is one of my favourite game franchises out there, Snake was just the man, the game seem so radical at the time, to me anyway, it was so far ahead in terms of other games on the PSX, it didnt matter it took you only about 7-10 hours to finish it, i kept goping back to it :)

Tough choice but I sided with MGS and Snake, just ;)

While I loved both games, FFVII was surpassed by FFIX, whereas MGS is still the best in its series. As for which was better, you can't really compare them as they are different genres, but, as you can probably tell from my username, MGS had the greatest impact on me and got me interested in Kojima's previous games.

    Love both games equally.

FF7 lasted so much longer so that's better value for money

Cloud and the gang were the reason I did so bad on my leaving cert! Such good memories of it tho.

MGS was a great game but no where near as epic as FFVII

    Cloud FTW!

These two games will always be my 2nd and 3rd all time greatest games ever made (behind Resi1/2/4) and for me these two games represent the best storytelling and some of the best moments gaming has to offer. Overall despite MGS's many brilliant twists I prefer FF7, for me it's one of the most amazing things that the world has ever produced, I love the game as much as I love my family.

Despite the legend that is Sephiroth and poor Aries, for me it's MGS that is the game that has more unforgettable characters then any other game (and the best boss fights of any game) and despite MGS4 been riddiculously overratted I still find that overall I prefer Solid Snake to Cloud Striffe, in the original MGS Snake was 100 times cooler then James Bond could ever hope to be

Well there we have it. The highest praise I've ever heard for a mere videogame!

I guess Solid Snake is the more appealing character - we have had far more games in his company than with Cloud, our mostly generic big sworded (snicker) and big haired protagonist for FFVII. David Hayter's gravelly voice grates more and more as time goes on - in Peace Walker it really annoyed me sometimes - but he's a relatively interesting hero, despite Kojima's insistence on overwriting every motivation that drives him forward. If only they had space for a Japanese voice option! Still, no-one sneaks up on an enemy quite like Snake. Sam Fischer - whose motivations seem to change by the game - is a joke compared to Snake.

You're kidding right? The Japanese VA for Snake is sh!te!

Naked Snake is my favourite ahead of Solid Snake, and ahead of Cloud by far.
