For secondary, you need to get the PGDE (post-graduate diploma in education). You can do this in Trinity, UCD, Maynooth, UCC, UCG. Trinity do interviews for their places and the other Colleges use a Points based system through the PAC (http://www.pac.ie/). The points are based on educational qualifications, your degree score and other post-graduate qualifications you might have. The applications need to be by December as far as I know for the following years course in September.

In terms of secondary teaching, I would suggest you are eligible to teach Accounting and perhaps Business Studies (Junior Cert).

Whether you are chartered are not is irrelevant for recognition to teach accounting I think. It all depends on the degree. Where did you do the degree?

You are qualified to start teaching straight away in the VECs without a dip until 2013 when you will have to have a dip (check this out but I have a friend who is doing this and is ACCA)

The best dip for business is the one in UL

And sadly there is a glut of business teachers out there....but if you have your heart set on it....

VECs require that you are registered with the Teaching Council.

Being a chartered accountant qualifies you to teach accounting and business to honours leaving cert level according to the Teaching Council website. As mentioned that will only get you into a VEC.

Get registered and you cant apply for jobs straight away...that's what my friend did this time last year.
