What is the best type of wooden floor without going to the cost of a solid wood floor?

Ive done loads of 'wooden' floors and in my opinion the laminated click flooring is great.
Its all relative to price really and you can usually tell the quality by checking the profile of the boards in the shop. you can see if they are cheap flimsy boards by how thin the laminate is or if the edges where they join can be chipped with your nail. Thats how I check em anyway and seems to work for me.
Ive done most of my own house in laminates as I personally prefer them to the real deal solid floors. Basically I avoided solid because I put down solid floors in a house, two week later after a party they had, the floor was destroyed with high heel dents. Would be some dose to sand those out and re varnish!!

Our carpenter gave us the same advise.
We were all for putting down a semi-solid floor but he said he'd put one down the week before and the first time the owners sat down at the table, the chairs had damaged/scuffed it.
He recommend a laminate that worked out at 15.50 sq/yrd and 7 months on we're very happy with it. Not a mark on it.

I have solid and semi solid flooring through out my house and the laminate is definetly the best have one down in a bed room for 11 years not a mark. Solid floors are beautiful but mark easily as do semi solid. The apperance of laminate flooring has much improver in the last few years and some of them look as good as solid flooring though they do cost more than run of the mill laminate.
