Summerhill, County Meath Motoring Experiment

What is the story with the road through Summerhill in County Meath? Is it some kind of experiment? On us? I've been driving through there for 9 years now and in that time I cannot remember when the road was works free or in a completed usable state. They have managed to build a brand new road either side of the village but can't get the bit through the town together. Are they having a laugh?:eek::confused:

lol yeah, it really is disgracefully bad around there. I used to hate driving through there, because the surface and unevenness destroyed my car

Yes, its actually quite amazing, no doubt people think the OP exaggerates, but I cannot recall it not having roadworks on it. What about the unmarked main road turn to the left as you enter Summerhill? Ive seen one accident there where the oncoming car assumed they had right of way and drove directly onto the main road.

Then there is the sweeping downhill turn from the Kilkock new Road, 25% of the time covered in Oil, sending certain cars sliding all over the place (seen 2 crashes there and lost control once myself).

I'm thinking MCC ran out of cash. There was a VMS sign saying resurfacing works until January - 2010 that is - up until about March, then it was taken away. The road has been rebuilt and is just missing its final course, but at this stage I can imagine the sublayer is getting damaged.

It's some fun alright but it's a damn sight better than it used to be! I must admit though, the road between Summerhill and Rathmolyon is one of my favourites to drive on :o

THIS pretty much sums it up - even the two CC lads having a sit down

It is by far the worst town to drive through that I have ever experienced.

Im sure the Gort area is cleaned up from time to time but Summerhill has consistently been a building site for years.

I think they were laying two pipes.
    Two tenders went out.
    Two different companies got them.
One company messed up and both had to come back up.
