    Hi,
I received a package today that i had ordered online from Jersey. On the back of the box, there was a white customs sticker with various details about the product. I've ordered online before but i don't remember ever seeing a sticker like this on a parcel.
I can't seem to make out if this sticker is from customs or from the company i ordered the product from...
    Does anyone know?

Is probably just a mini declaration from the vendor letting customs know what is in the package.

If you're being charged by customs you don't get your package until after you pay them.

I ordered an ATI Radeon XSomething Something a few years ago from the US. The guy sending it put its full value on the box. Customs stopped it, and I had to pay a load of money for it - like €150 or something. Annoying, but that's the way it is :)

    Charged?

    Did you recieve a bill?

Usually customs dont release until you pay up. So i'd say it's from the supplier.

Gotta tell us what it was now!!! :pac:

How do they work out the cost of the customs charge. Is it a percentage of the value on the package or is it a % of the perceived value of the item?

Oh and what's the percentage used?

That is a customs declaration and if you didn't pay VAT upon delivery then you have got away with it. An Post charge the VAT and around €6 admin fee before delivering. I ordered a Boxset from HMV.co.uk which came from Jersey and got stung for €32 in VAT and charges. I think anything under €25 or thereabouts can be imported without paying the Duty. Even though Jersey is in the United Kingdom it is not in the EU and if you really want something from there have it posted to the UK or NI as it is internal within the UK so no VAT.

It's a percentage of the value of the item as well as VAT as well as a set customs fee = $18 T-Shirt costing me €70!!!!

Package being delivered today from HK and UPS man just rang me to say there's nearly €50 of duty to be paid on delivery, approx 40% of the actual value of the item.

Got a parcel from my sister in Oz last week. I had to pay 77 euros before they would give it to me. Turns out it was 4 little christmas tree decorations that cost my sister all of 5 dollars. I now have an appointment with a customs representitive next week to try and get my 77 euros back.

Fixed fee (UPS handling fee is around 13 EUR mark as I recall) + vat on delivery cost AND item AND handling fee; yea, I can see that one easily.

Even though Jersey is in the United Kingdom
It is not a part of the United Kingdom. It is a British Crown dependancy.
