+100 to get them fined $100M for logging people's private wifi points
+100 to get them fined $100M for doing this without EU and National debate and approval.

Google Chairman, CEO Eric Schmidt, thinks you should just get a new Identity when the old one is used up :(

My Brother's House is on it. But I won't say where :)

they could do with updating the satellite view of the country first maybe other than the cities before releasing streetview.

That publishes to the world in HD, and connected to GPS, plus loads of gear to slurp all the MAC addresses, IPs, SSIDs and traffic on the WiFi.

Only they know what other information gathered also. And cross reference from other sources.

    Can somebody please tell me

1.How do Google make money from this...

    and

2.What use is it after looking at your house and a few other bits and bobs?

Google doesn't really make money directly off of Google Streetview however by the street view project they can create proper maps for their gooogle maps project which they would have to license off others had they not created them themselves.

Google Streetmap's cars are also maping wifi access points which allow them to improve their geo-location services which they can license to other companies.

    They can do much more.
In many cases the WiFi slurping lets them identify the exact location of "users" already in their database. For more targeted adverts on your web page and gmail.

Can they still do it if the WiFi is WPA protected?

Highly doubt it. Though they would log the SSID and any other information they can get, but not any packet payloads.

I'm quite surprized that they've essentially covered the whole country. I was initially under the impression that they were just going to do the cities.
