Hi all , just found this topic in boards, sorry if this question has been asked before.
Im living with my partner in our own home of which we have a mortgage.
We have a 15 month old child
We both work full time and my partner recieves children allowance once a month Question is,am i entitled to have my tax free allowance raised as i have a child now. Both of our names are on the birth cert.I have a friend who is in the same situation as me but living at home and his tax free allowance is much higher than mine.I also have another friend who claimed for his child after 2 years and recieved a nice lump sum.I was just wondering is this still happening or because of the way things are has this stopped. Thanks

I think the only tax credits for children are the "One Parent Family" tax Credit and Incapacitated Child tax credit.

the fact that ye are living together means you cannot claim the one parent credit

your friend said he was living at home (ie not with their parther i assume) so he would have claimed the credit and got refunded tax paid

EDIT: just re read ur post. are you talking about social welfare or tax?

Legend100 is 100% right as always..

Think your friend might be claiming what they not entitled to ie your second friend.
