Google: And Waiting... and waiting...

I'm wondering has anyone had any similar experiences like this:

I did several interviews for a position in Google a good while ago, it must have been about 8-9 weeks at this stage. I've not heard a thing back yet.

Now I've been talking to about three or four people who work there who tell me that this is a good sign, that they are notoriously slow at the decision making process and that if the answer was no I'd have heard almost immediately.

I've even been told that one of the reasons the hiring takes so long is that the founders of Google themselves sign off on every person to be hired, which to be fair is a bit mental!

Anyway does anyone have any similar experiences? In particular has anyone ever done the interview, and then been told 'No' months down the line?

Why not just make contact with the Google recruiter/hr who you were dealing with?

I doubt that Serg and Larry sign off on hires, it's a sweet little thought but total rubbish!

Waiting is the enemy. Why not look for another job? If Google want you (and you still want to work for them) they will wait out your notice period.

I've had more than one person tell me that they sign off on hiring, so I'm not so sure.

I've contacted the HR guy and I got a 'I'm checking and I'll get back to you asap' reply. That was also ages ago. In fact I might contact him again...

That's the way they are. Half the time I think they just interview people to get information from them about competitors and how other companies operate internally. They are like The Borg! :)

I got fed up waiting and sent them off an email, got a call back telling em apparently I did well in the interviews but the job isn't there anymore. Two months waiting and in the end I have to ask them to tell me what's happening. Very frustrating.

Anyway I wish I'd bought a punching bag the last time I was in town if you know what I mean. I've lots of pent up anger right now!

Ultimately Google are still a company like any other and you will have to deal with their share of incompetent HR people.

I imagine the founders signing off on everyone is something which may have once been true but is now more of an urban legend. Google has 20,000 employees and turnover rates for tech companies is typically 10%. That's 2,000 people that they'd have to review and approve every year - the order of 3 or 4 people (each) per day, every working day.

I'm sure they have better things to be doing. I can see it being possible though if you're being placed into a significant position of responsibility.

Ya still waiting to hear from them myself! Just applied for a job a few days ago and haven't heard from them since.
