Apologies if i'm posting this in the wrong area. Just been for a retest this evening with my electric converted bmw 316 as it had failed on a front balljoint the first time around. Went through fine and the guy hands me the results page and said i passed but as its an ev they cannot issue the disc and cert there and then and it has to be posted out. So i thought ok no prob. Came home and looked at the result page. Every test is "pass" but at the bottom it says test result : fail. Just wondering does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this as seems a bit strange. Admittedly my car is non standard but still seems a bit odd.......

I don't understand the logic there - they can't issue the cert because its an electric vehicle???
I'd contact the NCTS to double check this (and record the name of the person you speak to!).

Looks like a very nice job, well done. I think i remember some previous discussions when you were starting it off a couple of years ago.

Did you design the motor controller yourself for the SepEx motor?

    How much did this cost?
and how much would it cost to do it to more cars having now worked out how to do it?
How efficient is it compared to what the manufacturers are offering?

Thanks for the replies. I'll be contacting the nct first thing this morning to see whats going on. I should have questioned them further last night but when the guy said the word "passed" i just started jumping up and down and most of everything after that became a blur:D The project cost somewhere between 4-5k. At the minute its running on lead acid agm batteries which give a range of about 30-35 miles and 70mph top speed depending on conditions. I drive 12 miles a day to work so its not a big problem. Now that i know it works (and hopefully have passed the nct) i'll upgrade to lithium. Yes i designed the controller and charger and its a compound motor.

To be honest i think the production evs are not great for the money being charged. In terms of looks and performance. Using one gear is silly imo. Sure motors have a wider torque band than an ic engine but trust me its not that wide:D I'm happy with the bmw. I learned a lot , had fun , have a practical car for my needs that costs 60c to "fill"!

Spent the last 10 days playing phonetag with nct. Everytime i'm promised a return call later in the day that never happens. Still no certificate. Sent a registered letter to them last monday. Still no response. Looking like i'll have to get serious. Complaints dept then get a solicitor involved if necessary. I've attached the inspection report. All tests listed as passed yet overall result is failure. I don't get it

Mod Edit: original image removed & new image uploaded (withough NCT booking reference removed)

Got the cert today. Only for one year though.......bit strange but at least its done.

I presume its because they couldn't test emissions? This means they have to put a fail in the system as its such poorly designed software they cant n/a the emissions part.

Same with rotary engines which are exempt from emissions.

Didn't know that. Thanks. Don't feel too abnormal now :)
