Strange Redundancy Situation

    Hi,

I am with my current company 2 years and I recently handed in my notice at work. I was then offered a "gratitude" if i stayed on a few months longer to complete a project.

The way I was told they were going to pay me this "gratitude" (without losing most of it on tax) was through a redundancy payment.

If it looks like they made me redundant does that have any impact on me for the future? e.g tax credits, looking for work in the future etc....

Sorry I'm clueless on these things, I just want to make sure I make the right decession. Thanks for your help

    This is standard.

Get everything in writing before withdrawing resignation. Everything.

Unless it is a very large GRATUITY then it won't affect tax etc, unless you are made redundant again v soon.

As the above said get everything in writing. The redundancy payment if that is what it is does get special tax treatment though this might not apply for 2 years which is the requirement I believe for redundancy to be applied. If you are made redundant as oppoposed to quit then you also get some assistance from social welfare (might be wrong here but I think you get jobseekers for 12 months but hopefully you won't need it for this long)

If the employer needs you to stay on for the time needed and you are facilitating them then they might be open to you using their facilities to job seek for a while after you are finished, etc.

If it suits help them out and if you get a few quid and social welfare till you get another job then do so. Never burn any bridges as they might call you back again in a few months or refer you on.

Good luck hope it works out
