What do you think of this dress?

Ok I found this vintage Suttles and Seawinds dress on Etsy and I think I might be in love with it. It's not my usual style really though so I'm a touch aprehensive (only a touch though!), so i'd love to hear what you guys think? I don't know if it's just because I'm obsessed with all things shabby chic or because it has little perriwinkles on it! :o So is it lovely or am I losing it?

I think it's very pretty. I can't imagine many, other than yourself, carrying it off...but not sure the colouring would suit you?

Super cute - I know it's not your usual style. I think if you wore your hair up in a semi-smart updo and little pumps, it would look adorable.

That's the first thing I thought, but then blue is great with red (isn't it!?) and I have a dusky pink dress that suits me well so I thought.... God damn I get butterflies in my tummy everytime I look at the floral pattern on it :o

Oh I didn't even think of how cute it would be with little pumps!

Against your hair I think the blue would look fantastic!

Yay that's what I wanted to hear! I have had a huge fear of wearing pastelly colours since I went red and I'm starting to really miss them, I'm starting to venture out in pastels lately a bit and I think I'm getting away with it.

Wow its amazing. Love it :) Liking the pumps idea too!

And seeing as I've already got a tenner left on my 3V card, really it would only cost 23euro... And I skipped yoga this morning so I'm up 15euro already today....

To give my honest opinion, its a very sweet, pretty-pretty run-along-in the-meadows-of-flowers type of stepford wives good girl dress.

It does evoke a certain romantic and nostalgic mood, but other than as a refreshing difference to a varied wardrobe, this kind of look and indeed persona, that such a costume evokes can get tired very quickly.

I have seen people work this look successfully for periods of time, along with their high nellie bicycles, floral cottages, kittens and bows.
But eventually they seem to either grow out of it or develop a new style, that is just as creative yet fresher.

If this dress is your usual, maybe get rid of those 7yr old girl collars, shorten the hemline and experiment a bit?

    Justifying it? ;)

you HAVE to buy it now

Wow interesting answer, thanks! I don't normally think about dresses so deeply, I just decide whether I like them or not and hope they fit lol! It's not that I plan on adopting this as a whole new look, but I just like this one dress and I've been looking for a summery floral piece for a while... my usual style is much more victoriana/prairie/boho/folksy but I like to experiment as much as anyone. I thought the length was quite nice? I don't have the legs for anything above the knee

    Bet ya do!!

I love clothes that are individual, and that dress certainly is, so go for it.
    Just hate them collars!:(

Oh god I really don't, calves and ankles are ok but after that it goes downhill fairly rapidly :p The collars are a bit love/hate for me, I adore the split collar at the back. Normally I hide my legs and show off my collar bone a bit so wearing something higher on the neckline would be a new one for me. I'm inclined to think in the spirit of adventure I should try it though..

I love it, though I think it would be nicer without the collar. And you can pick colours to match with tights :)

It's a lovely dress provided you have at least 10 grandchildren at the stage.

I'd say the collar could be removed if you were carefull with the stitching. Oh man, I LOVE mix-matching coloured tights with outfits! :)

Lol you would probably hate most of my wardrobe so! I love the granny-chic look! :D

I love it Sapsorrow and think the colouring and style would really suit you, you can definitely get away with it. I say buy it before someone else does. I actually wouldn't mind getting it myself so get it reserved quickly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,396 ✭✭✭lindtee

And the collar is lovely, very different and love how it matches the hem colours.

Ok just waiting for the boyfriend to come home from work for a final opinion, if he loves it too I'm gonna get it! He's my most trusted fashion advisor of all so I have to just check with him too :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,396 ✭✭✭lindtee

I found it just to see if I could!! Can't fit into anything with a 26" waist anyways. I'd say your boyfriend will love it:)

Lol love the "girl logic", sure isnt that how we always justify buying things for ourselves.

Sapsorrow ive seen what you wear in your previous posts and while wouldnt be my style at all, i think this would be lovely on you. You wear that style brilliantly. But, are ya 100% about it? You normally seem confident in the "granny chic" you normally wear so as long as you are comfortable you'll carry it off effortlessly. I wouldnt buy it but sure thats just me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭Sapsorrow

Thanks Annihoo, the boyfriend loves it so I'm 100% sure now! I just needed some encouragement to try something so different but I definately adore it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,597 ✭✭✭anniehoo

Go for it then...the BF loves it and its practically free really with the 3v voucher and no yoga lol :D BTW are ya not naturally a redhead? What dye do you use? Its amazing!

Yup got it! Happy days :) No if only it was real, I'm very light blonde naturally and have been using henna for about seven years now! I use the El Cahira brand powder in mahogany, I get a big box for 3.50 in the health food shop.

Post pics of you in the dress no! :) I think it's super cute, really good buy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭Sapsorrow

I will in the WYWT thread when it arrives.. thinking yellow tights and dusky pink pumps...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭fillefatale

Just saw this now, I was going to set you against it but you'll totally work it! I really dislike the collar, but once you remove that and show those lovely collarbones of yours it'll be amazing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

Is there any way the collar could be turned around? I love the back of it.
