How do you know if your tv is MPEG4 ready?

How do you know if your tv is MPEG4 ready?

Easy. It almost certainly wont. Since the rollout was done in a rush by the civil servants in RTE they opted for MPEG4 even though the larger part of the UK & Ire TV sales market (ie the UK) had already opted for MPEG2. That means TVs older than a few months wont work and most new ones will only have MPEG4 if the manufacturers were feeling generous. It is designed to force most people to pay a "one off" DTT box tax to RTE, or their designated distributors, to get a decoder to stick on a shelf under your TV. And if you have more than one TV that will be a box tax for every TV. Of course the box tax is a double tax as you already pay for the Irish channels with the TV licence Tax you already paid for the TV with a perfectly good MPEG2 decoder but thats the new reality of bankrupt Ireland.
