Here's a head-scrather. Does it include Electric Showers do we think?

I phoned their Liffey Valley store and they weren't sure, telling me to read the voucher fineprint.

It says it excludes applicances, but is an Electric Shower an appliance?

B&Q has a dedicated "appliances" website with no mention of any showers (they're listed on the main site under bathroom).

I'm wondering what others think, but I may be making a journey to B&Q tomorrow with print-outs to hand to support my case........

To me - an appliance is a washing machine, tumble drier, fridge , dishwasher. I wouldn't call a shower an appliance.

    Nice Spot, Thanks for posting!

That B&Q Voucher will come in very handy. Few bits & bobs I need this week.

That website is also really good too...

A word of warning before buying the shower from B&Q.

I had a plumber out in my house recently and he told me that he refused to install B&Q showers. (It came up in conversation, I hadn't bought one). Apparently, if there is a problem with the B&Q shower there is major hassle for him. He is expected to diagnose the fault is with the unit, take it down and bring it to B&Q and then reinstall the new shower. He doesn't get anything for this even though the fault is not his.

I don't know what the arrangements are with the Irish or Non B&Q shops, but you might want to make sure with your plumber that he will install a B&Q unit before you buy it, and take whatever advice he offers.

About 3 years ago, I bought a replacement internal wooden door in B&Q. I had to bring it back because the door they supply is for UK specifications and is a small bit thinner than the Irish spec. so it was no use to me.

Still on the subject of B&Q, I must say that when I compared prices there, with prices charged by Atlantic, for example, I was quite surprised to find Altantic usually cheaper. I know Atlantic shops are not as nice or as big, but nevertheless, money is money and I prefer it in my pocket than someone elses.

If you are told on the TV often enough that B&Q are constantly driving down prices, you get to believe it. It's not necessarily so, but their advertisements are very slick and believable.

Just my tuppence worth, no interest to declare in either store.

The problem with showers from b&q is that the agency (earthridge in maynooth for triton showers) don't have parts and won't cover the guarantee on the shower.

Apart from that the showers themselves wouldn't be any worse than any other shower from the same manufacturer.

What's different in this scenario from any other shower or indeed any other part fitted? AFAIK most warranties specifically limit liability to making good on the defective item and exclude the cost of removal and refitting. If the installer has to remove and refit then it's only fair that's going to be at your cost if you've provided or even just specified the shower no matter where you bought it.
Maybe the real issue is the installer missing out of his taste whatever that may be from procuring on your behalf with your money from other suppliers. Otherwise he'd be working for nothing if he replaces a defective unit at no charge for his time just because he bought it for you elsewhere.

Actually while fitting a Triton thermostatic mixer shower about a year ago I discovered a set of nuts and washers was missing. A swift email and phone call to the contacts in the box and replacement parts arrived express post from the UK.
I know someone else fitted an electric Triton and had to take it out as apparently defective with intermittent action and temperature control issues. Tritons' replacement unit gave the same result. They then sent an engineer to inspect it on site who cheerfully diagnosed marginal water pressure and recommended an exchange for a different model. No charge for the visit and no hassle with the exchange.
I've nothing to do with Triton except I can vouch for those two examples of first class customer service under warranty.

That's what I was trying to say but probably didn't say it too clearly. the electric shower models sold in irish suppliers are different from some of the electric showers sold in b&q.

Triton ireland don't have parts for them.

As for the t90xr that's sold here, the backup is excellent. I fitted one a few years ago and there was a thermostat problem, they were out the next day and changed it, there was no charge, and I didn't have to go near the shower.

On one of the b&q ones that my cousin had they told me that they hadn't got parts and that I'd have to go back to b&q with it. Apart from that it was a good shower.

That is correct, Showers are included in the discount, white goods as above are not.

Triton showers sold by B&Q in ireland come from Earthridge, therefore there are no issues with service and warranty back up

Not the one my cousin got. It wasn't a t90 or t80 but a supreme or some name like that. It was a few years ago so maybe its changed since.
Either way when I rang earthridge they couldn't help.
