Possible to extract and implant in the same session?

I've had my Upper 6 restored about a zillion types over the years until eventually there was more filling than tooth!

A couple of years ago I went to my regular dentist suffering from pain and it transpired I has a particularly nasty abscess going on and he referred me to an endo in Dublin. Cost of treatment was €1,500.

It was a bit of a gamble to begin with and I was made aware of the potential failure.

A few months after the RC, fail it did, splitting in half, went back to the endo and he extracted the 'inner' side of the tooth leaving the outer wall and two roots.

    It's obviously implant time (again!).

However, rather than extract, wait 6-9 months and have bone shrinkage then fit the implant, is there any way they could extract and put the implant in at the same time?

    Just a thought.

It can be done, it called immediate placement. However it depends on the amount and position of the remaining bone and the infection status of the tooth. Infact this is something you can really call untill the day of implant placement for sure. Smart question though. The answer is sometimes.
