    Does such a thing exist?
So far i ahve been uninspired by the insomnia machine in spar and the black coffee from the helix. Im not a lover of starbucks so havent bothered with the main canteen.

the coffee from spar's alright, the starbucks in the sports centre/canteen is nice, but expensive. You could always try zero one/nursing cafe (I don't know is the business cafe the same) but I didn't like their coffee, and the stuff in the canteen is the worst I've had on campus

There are a few different varieties of coffee available from DCU -

    Insomnia (Spar)
The stuff from cartridges (Spar - ask for a cartridge for the old machines, and a machine in the Invent centre also has them). Tea, at least, from these is *really* nice.
Starbucks (canteen/sports hall). No surprises with this place.
Nescafe(?) machines around campus. Alright if you're running late for a lecture.
Bellagio (I think) coffee from the Invent centre cafe. I find this one quite nice, cafe is only open for a very short period each day though.
Java Republic from the Zero One cafe (under the library), and somewhere else that I can't remember.
The new bar sells another brand of coffee.

I think there's also non-starbucks stuff available in the canteen down by the place that you queue with your food. There's definitely tea there at least.

Trispace (people who run nearly everything bar Spar and the Nubar) are capable of making amazingly nice coffee when they want to, but I've only really seen it at conferences/big meetings and other events like that. Don't think you can buy it anywhere.

The extra creamy mochas from the coffee machines are gorgeous, as are the hot chocolates

Dunno what their "real" coffee is like though, I like my foamy girly drinks :D

Business School canteen and Zero One in the library (both Java Republic) are probably the best if you're just looking for a regular americano.

I've always found the coffee from the machine just outside the laundrette to be quite nice.

I've heard good things about the coffees the NuBar do. Pretty good and quite cheap as well!

Best coffee I've had is probably from the basement in the library. The Insomnia stuff in Spar is really bad.

I wish there was a place on campus where I could just get free hot water!

personally hate the coffee under the library.

Everyone I've spoken too is very pleasantly surprised by the coffee from the machines though. often agreed to have the best hot chocolate

Coffee from the machines is crap instant stuff.

OP, your best bet is to sample them all and choose your preference. Your options are Spar (Insomnia), Helix (Bewleys), main canteen (Starbucks), Zero One and Business School restaurant (Java Republic), Nubar and Invent centre.

Spent 5 years going to Starbucks. It was the best coffee I could find.

Coffee machine in the street is amazing, no 65 for €1 (mocha with one sugar) has gotten me through quite a few hungover lectures

Lads the Helix is the stuff for coffee! Bewleys is the stuff that converted me to coffee in the first place and it's the cheapest going on campus too! Only wish I had found it earlier during my year in DCU...don't make my mistake!!

As much as it pains me to admit, I think the best coffee I have found is starbucks in the sports hall. It's a bloody rip off though and always pissed me off having to go in there, also the other day I got a regular black coffee and the guy working there only filled it up 2/3 the way. Not sure if they are trying to be tight or he was just useless? Coffee is over priced everywhere in DCU from what I have seen. If you're a caffeine junkie like me it can really add up. Buy a good thermos cup and bring your own from home isn't a bad idea.

The 1 euro coffee machines is enough for me. just add loads of sugars! great for hangovers :p

you can't add sugar to coffee. it's just yuck

Can't believe all of the hate for Insomnia, around here. The Americanos are very nice and do the job well, I think. The problem is that outside of actual coffee, everything else that comes out of those machines is disgusting (milk, etc) so don't go near the Cappucinos or the Lattes.

With Starbucks, the opposite is true. Americanos taste like urine, but mochas are divine. Get that extra shot in it as well, to pump you up. I also think the lady who serves coffee in the canteen is quite friendly and deserves a shout out.

Agreed! Unless the coffee itself is yuck...then it's kinda needed! :)

Another coffee option is the new bar (NuBar) comes in at €2 a cup, a little more expensive than the helix but good value for what you get..

Agreed. She still knows my order off the top of her head after 5 years (with a year-ish gap of not ordering from there).
