Radiators upstairs not heating up?

    Hi Folks,
First post in the P&H section I hope you can shed a bit of light on this.

We have an Air to Water heater / solar panel combination to heat the house which is a couple of years old. There are aluminium rads in a couple of rooms downstairs, and all of the rooms upstairs. Since the weather has started cooling we've noticed that the rads upstairs aren't getting warm at all, despite bleeding and adjusting the taps. We can hear a lot of whistling and moving water in the system, but none of the rads or pipes feeding them seem to be warming up. These rads never got hot to the touch (they're not the type that do) but they're stone cold at the moment. They were all balanced when fitting a

We've underfloor heating in a few rooms, which is working OK.

Before I start calling plumbers, is there anything else I can check or do myself?

I presume you have underfloor heating downstairs and rads upstairs?? If everything else is working I'd check the zone control valve, it may be broken and therefore not opening when the stat from upstairs sends the signal for it to open. There is a manual override switch on it which will allow you to open the zone. This might get the hot water flowing upstairs again. If it is broken, you only have to replace the electronic outer part of it which just clips off.

    Hope this helps.
