Buying Legal Books

I need to buy a variety of legal books and since I gather they are expensive would like to pick up some second hand or discounted copies if possible.

I don't have the full book list yet so can't specify exactly what I need, even when I do get it, I gather there is a degree of choice in the purchases so what I buy may depend on what is on offer.

I was wondering whether anyone on here might want to sell on some of their legal texts (please PM if so) or alternately are there any recommendations for places to pick up knockdown or second hand copies etc? Thanks

Well for now I need : "The Irish Legal System", Byrne & McCutcheon, must be 5th edition, 2009. If anyone has a spare copy PM me and let's talk?

Most people keep their textbooks (with perhaps the notable exception of B & McC!) if they intend to practice law into the future. I still have all my college books, and regard them as one of my better investments.

I actually find the JM Kelly book on the constitution very useful as a doorwedge.

    Guilty :)

Picked up B & McC last night at a discount from publisher. Will be back looking for more though! eBay got a good mention for second hands actually..

I agree with Maidhc - most practising lawyers hold onto their text books. Even older editions are often useful for reference.

Fadó fadó about the only Irish text book was Kiely's Equity, which was hard to get.

There is now a huge range of text books, journals etc, and of course cases available on the 'net.

Some offices may lend books to trainees etc - I have done so at times.

However any practice does try to keep it's library together.

Is there a trick to that discount? I have to pick up a copy of the book too.

    Libraries have a purpose! :)

In saying that I bought all core texts which were on entrance exams at that time for the Inns. McMahon and Binchy - Tort; Kelly - Constitution; McDermott; Keane/Forde Company; McGrath/Healy - Evidence and Charleton McDermott and Bolger/O'Malley/McIntyre & McMullan - Criminal Law.

If you are a solicitor you need your own books really as getting to a library is generally not feasible.
