Taxback during unemployment Query

    Hi guys,

I could really do with some feedback on this, any help would be much appreciated.

    2009:
Jan - June: I was completeling a masters and was not working.
July - Spetember: I was in receipt of Job Seekers Benefit (total approx 2100e)
September - December: I was in full time employment and earned 5500 and paid approx 600e in PAYE.

    2010:

Jan - April: Same job, full time. Earned 8000 approx and paid 800e in PAYE
April - Present: Job seekers Allowance

    My query is as follows:

Am I entitled to a tax refund for 2010 and 2009 as I earned under 18,000 in both years and still paid tax? Can I apply for both years together by filling out P50 form and attaching my P45 (as it was the same job, just spanning into two different years) or do I have to apply for both years seperately.

Many thanks for reading. I am planning on emigrating if I cannot find a job and I am praying I am owed some taxback.

PS. Does anyone know how long it takes to be granted a refund?

    Hi Dave,

You'll have to look at each year separtately.

2009 - The easiest thing to do is phone Revenue and ask for a P21 Balancing Statement in respect of the 2009 tax year.

2010 - Complete your Form P50 and send to Revenue.

From the info you provided you'll probably get a refund back in respect of both tax years.

    Sascha.

Thank you very much for your response Sascha. I am very grateful as I find the tax system quite confusing at times!

    Much appreciated
