People sitting their Driver Theory Test (Category AM, BW, C & D) from the 1st of October must now bring 2 passport sized photographs to the Test Centre, along with their valid form of ID. If you pass your exam you are required to sign the back of the photograph and it will be laminated onto your pass certificate.

Does this happen a lot? You need to bring your Learner's Permit with you the day of the test though. I remember my examiner closely studying mine before we began.

Theory test. Not the Practical test.

You only get your LP after passing your Theory Test. You could use a Credit Union Book as I,D. using the old system

Thank God I'm doing it on the 30th.

It does not state on http://theorytest.ie/english/driver-theory-test/id-requirements.php that if you are sitting a Category C (truck) or Category D (bus) you MUST bring your Full Car Licence with you as proof of ID, aswell as the photos

There have been occasions in the past where people have sat a test of behalf of a candidate.

    Dare I ask. Why?

Maybe because because they will save money by not having to get passports photos taken:)

Pass the Theory Test and they'd have to buy them for their learner permit anyway.

    Dare I ask. Why?

Because the new process only comes into effect on 1st October.

Passport photos only come in sets of four anyway, so have 2 for the theory test and keep the other 2 for the learner permit application...they not going to waste then

2 are going to waste if the poster is sitting the test on 30th. That's why I asked, I was

NEW ID REQUIREMENTS for DTT Tests - From 1st October 2010
From 1st October 2010, DTT Theory Test candidates must bring Two identical Passport sized Photographs with them to the test centre, AS WELL AS a valid and original proof of identity from the list acceptable ID available on the I.D. Requirements page:http://www.theorytest.ie/english/driver-theory-test/id-requirements.php . This is a new requirement and candidates who do not bring both an acceptable proof of identification AND two passport sized photographs will not be allowed t sit their test and will loose their fee. Please be sure to check your confirmation letter or the I.D. Requirements on the DTT Section of this website for further details. (Please note, this new requirement does not apply to ADI, or CPC theory test candidates, who have different ID requirements)

Doing a theory test this Saturday cause I'd like to learn to ride a motorbike. Kind of funny that a Driving License is not listed as a valid form of ID. I've a Category B (car) license for over 13 years. Visa versa a Motorbike Category A/A1/M license is not a valid form of idea for sitting the theory test for a car.
Category B license is mandatory for trucks/buses.

All seems a bit muddled to me.

The photograph requirement reeks of cheapskate. If they we're doing this properly they'd digitally photograph everyone and scan their ID's at each stage of the process and compare at each subsequent stage.

If you have a Car license then you can use it as form of ID for Cat AM exam. The reason Cat B Licence is mandatory for trucks/buses is because you need to supply your Driver Number upon booking to prove that you already hold a licence (because obviously it wouldnt make sense for someone who cant drive a car to drive a truck or bus) and this is checked at the test centre.

The photos used to be taken at the test centre and digitally put onto the certificate but there was a lot of issues with the scanners, especially in the Mobile Testing Centres and candidates were sometimes left without receiving their cert on the day.
