    Hi all,
I am having problems with my vw passat.
Firstly when i was driving it it started jumping and just stoped dead on the road.I tried to start it and it took ages to start and drove it home. Now it takes ages to start and jumps again and then goes dead.
Anyway got a fella around to do the diagnostics on the car and the fault was cylinder 3 misfire detected. And it says that prbable cause is lack of combustion in the cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel matering,or poor compression.
Im just wondering if anyone has had this problem before and/or can you recomend a good mechanic or garage to fix this?
Don't think car will make it home to my usual mechanic.
    I'm in Dublin 11.
    Thanks in advance.:)

You mention absence of spark so it's a petrol engine then yes?
Missfire could be due to a dead coil pack, is it the 1.8t engine?

You should check your insurance policys, most of them have roadside assist, that will pick up your car on a lorry and deliver it to garage.
    Roadside assist number is 1890924228

I have a passat too, similar thing happened to me, but my car is grand once engine heats up. Before that it has injector 1 misfiring.

Thanks for that,ya was thinking that but my usual garage is in Sligo so don't think they'll tow it there! Can just get them to tow it to some garage round here.
Just looking for recomendations of a garage / mechanic that is good and won't be rip off round Dublin 11 so I can get the car fixed.

Sounds like you need an injector OP.

If it'll run for a while it might be worth throwing in a bottle of injector cleaner and half a tank of diesel and give it a good hard drive.

Otherwise it'll be roughly 300 plus fitting for an injector.

had similar problem on a tdi bora. the wiring loom going across the injectors under the rocker cover can get damaged. usually bad connections or wires get cut. it would be worth a look as its a lot cheaper than replacing an injector!

I recently had a Passat with same engine in my garage. Like hat, down on copression, thought it was injector, Removed and tested injectoir everything grand. After removing head for inspection...hole in an exhaust valve, but the part that had broken away had scored the head so severely that it was beyond repair.
I agree with the posting above, the wiring looms can becoem brittle and cracked. Usually though a diagnostic will throw up a code reating to a specific injector being open loop or shorting to earth if this is the case. I have a few injectors handy and for sale if you PM me, much cheaper than they are retailng for. Im based in garage in Lucan mind...

ya the bora showed up a fault similar on vagcom. it was cylinder 3 as well!! mine wasn't quiet as bad it just use to give a miss fire every now and then. when we opened it up and checked the loom it looked ok so we swapped over an injector to see if it was an injector or the loom. nothing came up ever again!! either it was a bad connection on the loom or a tiny bit of dirt on the injector. ill never know!!
