    Hi,

Have a Dell Latitude D630 and it recognises normal CD's (music ones) and DVDs.

However I bought some RW CDs to copy stuff onto and the computer does not even recognise the Discs when I put into it! I cant even format the discs (as pc wont recognise any disc in!).

I heard somewhere that there are differant kind of RW CDs you can get but Im not sure exactly how to know which CDs could potentialy be for my Laptop. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also . . My other laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300) doesnt even have the disc drive option on My Computer. Happened awhile ago (it just disapeared). Its an older computer (around 6 years old). IN device manager it has a yellow thing (and says error code 41) on the CD/DVD Rom Drive thing! PCMIA Flash media device also has that yellow warning )code 34)

Some CD drives dont like certain disks see if different make disks work.
Its DVD's that have + and - so you dont have to worry about that.
Test the disks in another machine.

    As for the older laptop

Uninstall the driver then connect the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.

Thanks for the help. If I uninstall the driver does the computer automatically look to reinstall it when I reboot ?

...or check for new firmware for your cd/dvd writer
