Going to be looking at a 2005 2.0 diesel Mondeo LX at a dealers tomorrow (I know the LX spec isn't the best, but the car is priced accordingly) - 73000 miles on the clock. Just wondering are there any obvious issues with this model? Any must ask questions. Pretty new to all this so I'd appreciate any advice!

I would hope to get the 130 ps 6 speed if paying for a 2.0 tdci

Look for evidence expensive jobs have been done.

    Turbo
    Clutch
    Timing belt.

Otherwise it may not be such a cheap car.

Dual mass flywheel (expensive)and intercooler hoses poping off (more or less free to fix) were common issues on them. Big comfy car that are light enough on diesel. If the DMF was done recently it wouldn't be a bad buy if she is straight and sound. Personally I don't like them at all (had one for a year as a company car, hated the thing really)

A friend of mine has one and it seems to be reliable enough. Downside though is that it is horrifically dead. Absolutely no torque at all. Maybe its just his car though.

The 2.0 TDCi mondeo engine in that model has a LOT of problems with injectors. They are not cheap to replace. Broke my heart.

Mine was a 90bhp TDdi LX, dissapointing torque wise particularly in 1st and 2nd.

The one I'm looking at has 115BHP. Fairly negative reponses overall,I had understood Mondeo's were fairly reliable, guess I'll have to give it some more thought!

Isn't the torque the same in every gear?

I've known people who put 300,000 miles on them with out major issue. Popular car. I've an older one, different engine. The rubbers around the windows lift real easy and can cause rust.

The cost of running them is cheap. Shop around with them though, service history is a must.

I drove a 05 for a couple of years and about 50 k miles. Never needed anything apart from usual servicing brakes etc. Not a car you'd ever fall in love with but reliable, practical and cheap to run/ service. I thought there was a timing chain though so no timing belt issues?
