Consistency

I've struggled a bit with consistency all year. I seem to have some mixture of about 12/14 good holes and about 6/4 bad ones every round. Either a good start and finish with a few poor holes in the middle, or a good start, then leaking shots in down the stretch. It's a bit frustrating at this stage, as initially I thought it was only a phase.

Just wondering if anyone has ever struggled with this and how did you overcome it? Obviously the top golfers are very consistent, so what do they do that makes them consistent? Is it a good solid swing, or is it mental?

    Opinions welcome!
    Cheers.

Will be very interested to hear the replies to this as it has been the story of my year too.

Good start, lose it in the middle/lost it at the end!

    Very frustrating.

One tip I was given from an boards member was to break the round into 3 holes and concentrate on these. Sounds great but I keep forgetting to do it in a competitive round.

For the first time ever, I seem to be losing the head after a bad hole and carrying it with me for the next few which turns one bad hole into 4 agh!!!

    concentration would be may thing.

also I say also when people hit a bad shot don't take their punishment and try and play the 1 in a 1,000,000 shot to make up for it.

Welcome to the club. It's been the story of my game so far this year. I either have a savage front nine and crap back.. or vise versa. I think for me it's a concentration thing as my energy levels start to get a little depleted after the 13 or so. Maybe I need to look into what kinda food and stuff I should be taking out with me.

Also I tend to take alot of risks because it's fun. I could be 230 yards away on a par five, knee high in rough and green tucked nicely behind a lake.. I'd still take out the 3 wood and give it a pop.. maybe I need to stop this and think a little smarter

Interestingly, I've kind of been doing this. I'm off 8, so if I was +1 after 3, I'd think to myself, 'that's okay, keep that up.' But I never really went out at the start of the round to try this. Might give it a go next time.

I don't to this at all to be honest. I'm pretty good course management-wise. I just start hitting poor shots for some reason!

Sure I was playing at the weekend and started par, birdie, par, par, bogey .. followed by two sctraches! Simply because my driver decided to act the dick on the 6th and 7th! Yet I hit it excellent on every other hole. Doesnt make much sense really.

Read Dr Bob Rotella - your situation makes perfect sense.

You were scoring very nicely at the off and then your subconscious started saying "hold on a minute we're doing quite nicely here - perhaps a little better than usual"

Cue subconscious now saying "better rein this back in a bit".
<chunk, block, scratch, scratch> - "OK back to normal scoring now !!"

Welcome to my golfing world. I can't even get a hole consistent. Am continually on the verge of packing it in. Patience just isn't in me. I see all these tippy tappies knocking it round in bogey golf and it drives me bananas. What's the fun if you're not trying to leather it? I can play draws fades, good enough round the greens... rarely beak 30 points. Two decent rounds this year, 36 points with three scratches and 31 with I think 5 scratches. I think you have to be dull to be good.
