There certainly is. Is it just me or is this the worst sale line ever?

Phew.. I'm not losing my mind.
Heard it for the first time myself this morning and was thinking 'surely I didn't just hear that'.

Would suit a car like a Kia or something, but surely anyone who pays the extra money for an S40 over a Focus buy into the whole idea of spending more money than they could on something ?

To me, it sounds like they are coming from this angle...if you buy a Volvo, you won't spend a lot of money on fixing things that go wrong and you won't be constantly worried about it. This means you can get on with your life if you buy a Volvo.

To me it sounds like Volvos the worst of the bunch and there are plenty better cars out there.

It's not the first thing that would come to mind after hearing that, but i presume that's what they're getting at.
    Shocking slogan tbh.

    Hey - what happened to...........They're Boxy, but they're Good ? :D

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

They stopped being boxy sometime back in the mid '90s, that's what happened.

I agree though, the advertising slogan is bollocks.

They were the best Volvos in my view, had a few 144s, 244s and 740/60s and really liked them but the ****e they're churning out now...........I don't think so.

Silly slogan alright, if its meant for the masses I'm thinking they won't get it.
I love our '98 T5 V70 estate though. Nearly 200K miles on it barely consumes oil and still hauls a$$ pretty decent for an old girl when you boot it. The S80 is nice too, but overly reliant on electronics, even by my standards!

To a certain extent I agree with you. I have been disappointed by some of the new models, but a part of me that still supports them and the Volvo brand.

I think that period hit the right balance in the history of Volvo Cars. During the nineties the brand had everyone interested and cars like the 850 T-5 excited while retaining some of the old Volvo charm at the same time. It seems today they have forgotten that period and the identity of the Volvo brand itself.

I reckon it's only in recent years that Volvo really dropped the ball with some of the Ford based models. As I mentioned in another thread, they feel like they are built out of the exact same stuff that Fords are and have lost that feeling of solidity in every component. People may go on about Fords being 'class leading' and having great handling/roadholding etc, but at the end of the day they're built down to a price and are largely sh1te.
