Hi, i have a VW Bora 1.9tdi, i want to take the standard high look off it by lowering it by around 30 or 40mm. i was wondering what would be the best option, lowering springs or coilovers, i still want to keep the comfort and not have to worry about every little bump on the road. Any advice will be much appreciated, thanks.

Some info here on suspension mods: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055843141&highlight=good+read

This one is VW mk iv specific: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=133342

I have set Koni STR-T Shocks with stock springs, the lowering springs are still in the attic, I'll install them when I get my hands on a set spring clamps and some courage.

Id rather drive the car with no wheels on it than fit JOMs,i've only ever been in one car fitted with them and refuse to make the return journey in the same car.

With coilovers as with anything else you get what you pay for,if you are just looknig to lower to take the tractor look off the car then got for something like the H&R cup kit, lowering springs that only lower it slightly to allow you to retain your standard shocks,if you want to lower to improve performance then spend a little more i had Koni coilovers in my old Bora any of the known brands like Koni,H%R,KW etc you can't got wrong.

You can get the H&R cup kit from alloywheels.ie in blanch.

    Coilovers all the way.
I fitted FK coilovers to my mkiv Golf in March of this year and I love them.

If you want comfort, use lowering springs with standard shocks, if you want adjustability use coil-over but be warned - to get to what you consider a comfortable compromise setting with coil-overs, the car may look as if it only has lowering springs; that's potentially a lot of money wasted on adjustable KW coil-overs or what ever.

Coil-overs are primarily about performance (little / no body-roll, sharper steering, better feedback from road, etc.) and originally had little or nothing to do with appearance.

Dont know if this is the case tbh, my coilovers are way more comfortable than my stock suspension and its lowered to the height I wanted.

If you want comfort use lowering springs designed to be used in conjunction with standard shocks, otherwise it will handle like a speed boat!

For lowering a daily driver I would always recommend lowering shocks and springs, I personally think coilies are a tad harsh for our roads here, or you could just fit lowering springs although as the lads said it's important you get ones that are designed to work with the standard dampers

Anybody know what lowering springs are compatible with standard dampers?

H&R cup kit is as far as i know.Springs that are compatible with standard shocks will never lower the car a great amount but only enough to take the 4x4 look off it.

lowering shock and spring are the way to go, the standered shock wares more quickley with lowering springs so u would need a good shock to support the spring, well that what i have read anyway i may be wrong...correct me if i am anyone....
