i want to purchase ipads for my sales team and develop my own app for use on the ipad and i want my team to access data across europe.

what are the pros and cons of this ?

if i understand correctly; even though the app is only designed for use for my salesforce, i would still need to put it through the app store? is that correct? would anyone be able to download my app? is running the ipad across europe gonna cost me a bundle in data charges? what are the alternatives (i want a touchscreen)

i'm weighing it up, and i think it might be better to go the android route ?

    thanks in advance

Unless they have access to a wifi network the data charges will be the same regardless of device. Thats more a question of which network to use while roaming.

As to which device, well you can use a website, instead of an App then you are not tied to one type of device.

You can get an enterprise development account from Apple that would allow you to deploy your own internal company apps without putting them on the app store.

IIRC, iv heard of people developing apps and distributing them to friends etc. Now there must be some security around this, such as only being allowed with one app store account maybe, or else we'd all be able to download any app we want!!!

    thanks for the responses.

    so...

i can get an enterprise account which can control the deployment of the app securely

as pointed out data charges are going to be the same regardless of device so it doesnt really matter

are there any constraints that i'm missing?
