Last spotted taking no prisoners in Harcourt Street in his inaugural 2008 Tripod appearance, Trentemoller is back, this time with support from Danish band Chimes & Bells.

”..It is both extremely alarming and incredibly beautiful, and one’s ear is just about to fall off in sheer awe of how Trentemøller manages to unite all elements in one seamless flow.”
5/6 , Jeppe Krogsgaard Christensen Berlingske Tidende

” …One is caught in a sonic vice for the complete album length of 54 minutes. Because ‘Into the Great White Yonder’ is as old fashioned as a regular album experience, where each number grows because of the context they enter into.
    5/6, Henrik Queitsch Ekstra Bladet

”… Every track is like a sculpture of sound surrounded by numerous details…”
    4/6, Simon Lund Politiken

When his debut album ‘The Last Resort’ took the world by storm in 2006, Anders Trentemøller already had established his name as one of the finest talents of electronic music. The Copenhagen based Danish producer and multi instrumentalist started out with a number of yet classic single productions. In February 2005 Berlin producer and DJ Steve Bug released the Trentemøller 12-inch ‘Physical Fraction’ on his brand new label Audiomatique. It became one of the summer anthems of 2005 and was followed by three excellent releases on Bug’s main label Poker Flat: ‘Polar Shift’, ‘Sunstroke’ and ‘Nam Nam’. Trentemøller’s fresh sound and quality production gave a new twist to the upcoming minimal techno-sound and consolidated his reputation as one of the hottest producers of the year. But even though he excelled at writing scorching techno-grooves, Trentemøller felt the need to expand his horizon and show the world another side of his musical personality. The result with his debut album ‘The Last Resort’ (2006), a beautifully crafted masterpiece, that left the listener breathless. The 13 instrumental tracks together form a wordless musical story, almost
like the soundtrack of a movie. The album manages to capture a whole range of emotions in subtle melodic miniatures, dreamy ambiences, dusty beats, deep dub-tracks and driving groove-excursions. An ever-changing kaleidoscope of colours and moods, ‘The Last Resort’ struck a chord with new audiences all around the world and became a huge, international hit and earned a number of music awards as well as the ‘album of the year in various magazines.

In 2007 followed two vocal singles taken from the album: ‘Always Something Better’ (featuring Richard Davis) and ‘Moan’ (with Danish singer Ane
Trolle). In the summer of 2007 Anders started a very special tour: ‘Trentemøller Live in Concert’. For the first time Trentemøller and band (Henrik Vibskov on
drums and Mikael Simpson (guitar/bass) performed tracks from the album ‘The Last Resort’ live on stage, with spectacular visuals provided by videodirector
Karim Ghahwagi. The tour included festivals like Glastonbury (UK), Melt (Germany), Lowlands (Netherlands), Roskilde (Denmark), followed by his first USA concerts. In October 2007 the double album ‘The Trentemøller Chronicles’ was released: a special kind of Best Of, which contained Anders‘ personal selection of his best songs which were not included in the debut album ‚The Last Resort‘ and remixes for artists like Röyksopp, The Knife and Moby, as well as some new and exclusive songs. Trentemøller continued touring in 2008 and released the third single from the album on Audiomatique: ‘Miss You’, an intimate and beautiful instrumental. This was followed by a live CD with tracks taken from the stunning show at the Roskilde festival in 2007, ‘Trentemøller live in concert’, which managed to capture the magical atmosphere of that event.

In 2009 followed Trentemøller’s remix for the first single of the new Depeche Mode album ‘Sounds Of The Universe’. ‘Wrong’ was released on the official remix EP in April 2009. The Trentemøller remix for Franz Ferdinand‘s ‚No You Girls‘ was released in 2009 and has been nominated for a US Grammy award. A month later Trentemøller presented his first mix compilation on the new label ‘hfn music’. ‘Harbour Boat Trips 01- Copenhagen’ consisted of a collection of Trentemøller’s personal favourites from the past four decades. One of the highlights of 2009 surely was headlining Roskilde Festival 2009, where Trentemøller performed an outrageous show in front of more than 50.000 people. The concert featured lots of guest musicians, performers and extraordinary visual effects designed and built by Henrik Vibskov and his crew.

And now, in 2010, there’s ‘Into The Great Wide Yonder’, Trentemøller’s second artist album. The follow up of ‘The Last Resort’ offers as much depth and soul as it’s predecessor, yet sounds ultimately fresh and different. Above all, the ten tracks show an artist that’s willing to take risks, find inspiration in new places and move beyond the sound of his previous album. Trentemøller: ‘Of course I didn’t want to make the same record twice. That would have been boring.’ Instead he just started to collect new ideas, without thinking too much about the direction the music would take him: ‘The only thing I knew was that I’d want the music to be more organic, warm and not typical electronic sounding‘. Compared to the intimate electronic mood pieces of ‘The Last Resort’, the ten tracks on the new album indeed have a glorious indie rock sound, with a lot of dynamics, distorted driving twang-guitars and haunting synths alongside four beautiful melodic vocal songs.

The sound of ‘Into The Great Wide Yonder’ might be one step ahead of his previous work, but we still easily recognise Trentemøller‘s sound in this inspired collection of songs and atmospheres. The sonic richness, sharp contrasts and daring musical colours are vintage Trentemøller. ‘Into the great wide yonder’ is an album that keeps growing for a long time, as every track works its way stealthily under your skin. While the album is released end of May an extended live tour around the world will start in autumn 2010.

    CHIMES & BELLS

Chimes & Bells is the brainchild of 26 year old Danish singer and cellist Cæcilie Trier. The classically trained multi-instrumentalist has long been a major part of the Copenhagen indie scene, performing with several renowned bands including the highly acclaimed Choir Of Young Believers.

Formed in 2008, Chimes & Bells was quickly signed to local Copenhagen indie label Tigerspring and the debut EP ”Into Pieces Of Wood” was released in Denmark in February 2009 to rave reviews.

The band had played only a handful of shows in their homeland before performing at The Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, London and soon after, the EP was released in the UK by legendary label Bella Union.

The band is currently laying the final touches on a full length album, which is expected in early 2011 and recently played the Roskilde Festival 2010.

The music of Chimes & Bells defies formal genre definitions, but contains elements of noise rock, art pop, shoegazer and r&b.

On the “Into Pieces Of Wood” EP, slow, brooding and circular song structures were seamlessly intertwined with dark, gleaming pop melodies and climatic explosions of melodic noise rock.

Cæcilies deep, booming, soulful voice – almost a force of nature in itself - combined with the shuffling, gritty and organic groove of the band, creates a massive, yet hauntingly beautiful soundscape, centered around layered vocal harmonies, cello, organ, guitar, bass and drums.

While the EP explored a meditative, almost hypnotic feeling, the upcoming album embraces pop structures, major chords and catchy melodies to a larger degree, and also introduces elements of roots r&b and a ramshackle, almost bluesy minimalism.

“Chimes & Bells are a band you have to check out. The Bella Union band are no less than brilliant. Their songs are epic, an instrumental delight. Thumping kick drum and layered vocals, there’s a real atmospheric quality to their sound. Singer Caecilie Trier has a powerful, low drawl, which reminded me of Mariam/Wildbirds & Peacedrums.”

    - Anika In London

“The combination of a slow post-rock/shoegazer soundscape and Triers extremely beautiful, ecchoed vocal is right on the money. “Into Pieces Of Wood” contains a fragile beauty that could turn into, well, everything, any minute now.”

    - Undertoner.

“Cæcilie Trier sings with great authority and selfconfidence and is capable of appearing totally unpretentious, despite the grandioso musical surroundings. This signifies a surplus reserved for the few and promises a bright future for the talented singer.”

    - Soundvenue

“Cæcilie Triers sorrowful cello runs through the songs like a brooding undercurrent beneath the recurring waves of noise guitar, rattling tambourines and Triers own withdrawn, almost moaning song-lecture. The ambition has clearly been to create a consistent, magical expression that ensnares the listener - not unlike related artists like Mazzy Star, My Bloody Valentine and Velvet Underground - and the mission is thoroughly accomplished with this highly promising EP.”
