Micra K12 power steering fault

A friend of mine has one of these wee cars, the p/s is gone, looks like its a common fault and needs to be replaced? Anyone know much about these? Need to get sorted Thanks a mil Simon

there is problems with them alright. it could be the sensor in the steering. when you turn the steering wheel it senses that you want to make a turn and it activates the electric motor to assist you. if the sensor is gone then it wont sent the signal to the motor. if it is not the sensor then it is the motor.
