    Well done - good shooting.

Out of interest, what would happen if the second deer shot (by accident) happened to be a doe? I'm sure you'd be entitled to keep it as it was shot accidently but may have some awkward questions to answer if met by a ranger hauling both back to the car!!..just wondering.

i dont think i would have taken the neck shot if it was a doe behind, but to answer the question i dont know, think i would ring the ranger iam sure if you rang they would know it was an accident, and as for good shooting, good luck mabey.

Similarily to J.R just wondering about the 'intention' of the shot? Were you trying to take two with one bullet or was it luck? I know "what if?" is a pain in the arse but what if the bullet didnt strike the head of the second deer? Its head was down so bullet dropped? Possibility of wounding animal? Accidents do happen, that being said, so does luck. Either way a good outcome that both animals were dispatched properly.

Lads, forgive me for this but isn't one of the cardinal rules of shooting "know what is behind your target"? Fair play that you made use of both animals but should the shot have been taken in the first place? Just sayin';)

will agree with you there, but from the angle i was at if bullet passed through first animal i was fireing down should have hit the ground about 3 0r 4 yards before second 1, but seemed to hit bone and rise up, i would think i would be careful where i fire. ive never had a problem after over 30 years shooting, the important thing is that both animals were despached instantely, understand where you are comeing from and to tell you the truth i would be a little more careful next time, would have a bit of explaining if had been a doe behind.

Not very unusual with core lokt bullets, First i heard of it was around 10 years ago with a 6.5x55 Norma round

I've done it with rabbits a good few times, save on ammo ;)

That is why sometimes a smaller ballistic tipped round is better than a big soft nosed core lokt round.

It's the main reason i like ballistic tipped rounds

yep tack, just spoke to a lad last night and said the same thing, said 90 or 95 grain ballistic tipped would be better than 100g psp's, would,nt be that well up on ammo but he said the psp's mushroom out, i did have 3 holes in 1 animal with a heart and lung shot, was 2 holes on entry side must have hit bone and came back out, thanks.
