As the title says, myself and the wife are in the process of looking up sun package holidays for over the Christmas period (It's our 1st Xmas as a married couple). Ideally we would fly 26th December and be back by 2nd Jan which is a full week away, and be back in time for work which resumes Tuesday 7th January.

Can anybody recommend a travel company which specialise in these kind of deals. Most places are charging crazy money (650 - 800 per person for the week)for Lanzarote that week, I suppose any Canary island would be desireable due to the year-round sunshine etc...
We would prefer Lanzarote as we've been there a few times before, but would not rule out Gran Canaria, Tenerife or Fuerteventura.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..:confused:

    Ta very much! :)

Why don't you book it separately yourself? Ryanair fly out of Dublin to Lanzarote on the 26th and fly back on the 2nd for about €400 each, if you book the accomodation yourself it should only be a couple of hundred for the week between you, depending on where you want to stay of course.

In my opinion separately never works out cheaper.
I normally go with one of the Thomas Cook companies (directholidays, panorama or sunworld), but at that time of the year you have to expect to pay a high price.
Not sure if it will be warm enough for a swim on the sea though, you may want to check Egypt as well.

I'd like to go to Egypt just after Christmas ~ 28th of December for one week. I've looked into flights alone and packages, but it seems very expensive (I've checked the sites you mentioned and they've nothing available that week...just the following week). Any ideas?

Two years ago we booked 8 nights in fuerteventura over the Christmas for €260 each, so booking seperatly can get you a good deal. Flights were with ryanair and accommodation through Thomson.

Done Tunisia, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria for the Xmas and New Year for the last 7 years.
Nothing beats Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria, pity I had to find out about it last, went to Lanzarote twice and was blown out of it in breezy Teguise, Puerto del Carmen is ok but full of lucky lucky men and last time I was there it seemed to be going downhill a bit and this has been confirmed to me by friends who have went since.
Tunisia is rotten, they grab and shout at you in the shops and markets and lets face it your going to have to go to one with her, its abit dated as well, felt like I was in the movie Casablanca when I first entered the hotel, they have a funny way with the treatment of women as well.
You can fly with Iberia with a short stopover in Madrid for reasonable money, all the direct flights go through the roof at that time as the kids are off.
TBH you might have left it a bit late to book any where reasonably priced. I book my flights in Feburary for the following December and get them for about €250 inc bags etc.
If you get flights that suit you you can pm me and I might be able to put you in touch with someone who will arrange accommodation for about €300-350 per week. Or you can google and get accommodation on the net. The real saving is made if you go for 2 weeks as the flight cost are the same but you get twice as mant nights.

Have been going to Lanzarote for Christmas and New Year for the last 7 years. Used to book with travel agents but for the last 2 years have booked flights and accommodation separately and it has worked out much cheaper. Went with Ryan air last year and had no problems so have booked again for this year. Travelling 22nd Dec for 16 nights and it was 800 Euro for 2 return. I think the prices have gone up a good bit since we booked. Booked accommodation for 500 - small bungalow in Playa Blanca, where we stayed last year. It used to cost about 1900 Euro to book through travel agents for 2 weeks for this time of year so we've saved a good lot booking flights and accommodation separately. Aer Lingus also do flights to Lanzarote but they were a great deal more expensive than Ryan Air.

What accommodation would you recommend in Puerto Rico?

Depends if you are doing your own flights or package holiday and when you plan to go.
I have timeshare there so I do my own flights and transport to and from the airport.
I did package once and stayed in the Morasol Suites. Fantastic accommodation, great location but cost an arm and a leg. €4000 for 2 and 2 for christmas and new year and that was about 4 years ago.
Any where is good but not too near the commercial centre as the noise will keep you awake and thats not great if you have kids. Avoid near the europa centre as it is well away from the main restaurants etc.

Hi there booked the Morasol suites for a week at Xmas and its our first Xmas to ever go abroad (also our first Married Xmas!!). Just wanted a bit of reassurance about the weather and the place in general. I know it might not be baskin sunshine for the 7 days but is it generally warm?? and is there good athmospher around the place. We stayed at Marina Suites there in June/July and loved it....What are the general temperatures like? Your feedback would be much appreciated, really like what youve said so far. thanks
