    Hi all!

Hope somebody can help me out here!
We have moved to a new house and this one has a Firebird Indoor Boiler (r.s. balanced flue Popular 90).

I have been trying to switch on the heating but have failed :(

There are two switches and a timer above the press that houses the boiler. When I turn on the switches there is a whirring sound but nothing happens. Have checked the oil tank, there is oil in it.

On our old firebired boiler (outside shed) there was a button to kickstart it, can't see anything like this on the current one.

Have asked our landlady, but she is more than useless just got a vague answer about the switches on the wall. Don't think she knows herself.

Would anybody be able to tell me what to do? I am freezing!

    Thanks!

Is the whirring noise coming from the burner or heating pump. Try pressing the reset button on the burner if you can locate it, if the burner is causing the whirring noise without locking out then its best to get an engineer out. You could check for oil at the pump in case its an air lock but be aware, a smell of oil in combustion chamber will cause of explosive ignition.

Not sure what makes the sound. Also can't find a reset button. The boiler is encased, unlike the previous one

Used to live in a house that had a Firebird burner in the kitchen. Over the years I was there, we let the oil run out once or twice-ish :o, the nice oil delivery man would bleed the burner for us. He took the front panel off, unscrewed the internal L-shaped panel inside (the corner of the L is facing up towards you at the bottom of the boiler). He would then loosen a screw on the line before placing a bowl under it & pressing the red button. The burner would kick in (quite loud) before knocking off if there was air in the line. He would repeat this until there was a steady drip of oil from the loosened screw & the burner didn't cut out. When the oil was coming through the line again, he would tighten the screw again, replace the cover & tighten all the screws (noise muffled) before replacing the front panel.
Can you tell that I was really glad they would do this for us?:D Had one guy refuse to do it (not complaining about him, it's really not part of his job) & had to pay a plumber €90 to sort.

You have to remove the front cover, and then check if the lockout light is on, but listen to any noise it will help identify the problem:)
