How do I look up a case in the Trinity law library?

For example, Hayes v Minister for Finance [2007] 1 ILRM 442.

    Thanks

Better ask the Law Librarian quick. She's retiring on Wednesday and thanks to the Public Service Recruitment Moratorium, she isn't going to be replaced, so from Thursday TCD Library will have no Law Librarian. Library Staff will do their best to help you, but no-one is qualified in Irish law so it'll be hit and miss.

Might be an idea to talk to the SU Education Officer about this.

Most of the case law is shelved on the wall opposite the photocopier area. The two most common titles are the Irish Reports (abbreviated as IR) or the Irish Law Reports Monthly (ILRM) The books are shelved chronologically, so for this case you would search for the 2007 volume of the Irish Law Reports Monthly. The Number 1 is the volume number and the 442 is the page number.

Also, a lot of cases can be found online. This is a useful site - http://www.ucc.ie/law/irishlaw/cases/

So are Justis and Westlaw, which can be accessed through here - http://www.tcd.ie/Library/collections/databases.php

    You just made my life.

Any advice on how to find the book when you have the shelfmark? Probably a lot simpler than I've found it to be and a bit of a silly question, but yeah. :pac:

Go to shelf, check for number :pac:

Ah no, well check the library maps and you'll see where the general section is... then you go to that section and each of the shelves will have something like 339.01-340.40 and so on, so just find the shelf with the right number and then look along it

Glad I could help a bit :) Unfortunately, finding books is always tedious, but should be less so after a few months when you're more familiar with the layout of the library.
