Ann Coulter: "Marriage 'is not a civil right - you're not black,'

Marriage ‘is not a civil right — you’re not black,’ Coulter said to nervous laughter,” Smith reported. “She went on to note that gays are among the wealthiest demographic groups in the country. "Blacks must be looking at the gays saying, ‘Why can’t we be oppressed like that?’ ”

Megan Carpentier at Talking Points Memo reported that Coulter, in a speech more like a stand-up act, suggested that the conservative gay rights movement should align with the antiabortion movement, because, she said, "as soon as they find the gay gene, you know who's getting aborted."

after the speech was dominated by Homocon attendees grilling her on her position on a range of issues, including whether opposition to same-sex marriage was really in line with the conservative principles of limited government and whether she personally believes that homosexuality is a choice — a question she declined to answer.

Is there anything more disgusting than this woman? It's a shame that anyone in America who pushes for Gay marriage doesn't have a hope in hell of ever becoming president. Obama, McCain and all other presidential candidates AFAICR did not support gay marriage, and upheld the DADT policy for the military which is incredibly archaic.

What are your guys thoughts on this issue? I have to say, I'm not entirely up to scratch on gay issues - especially on the differences between marriage & civil unions - But those type of comments are truly mind-blowing and come across as sound-bytes from the 80's.

Ann Coulter is nothing but a deluded extremist who is so far to the right of all mainstream opinion that there is no reason to pay attention to her.

She once advocated that the Middle East should be indiscriminately carpet bombed! She claimed that the widows of 911 victims enjoyed their husbands' deaths and used it for profit!

The American media has a terrible habit of pushing people like this into the public eye. If she was Irish or British, we would never have heard of her, she would fail to gain any attention from any media outlet.

She's like the protesters who claimed that Obama was like Hitler because of the Health Care Reform Bill. Obviously these minority of nutcases weren't representative of popular opinion, but they gained influence because they were represented in the media.

It's easy for me to say this because I'm not LGBT, I can only imagine how hurtful comments like this are to those who are, but my point is that when a person doesn't merit attention, then they should get none. Why give someone a voice, when they belong with UFO and 'Elvis is alive' weirdos?

Even looking at her picture from the link posted, the woman looks out of her bloody mind.

She looks as if someone has poked her up the hoop!

I found it very funny…. if you treat it like a “stand up”, it comes across as hilarious! :D

She has a right to express her views the same as everyone else, even if she’s as made as a boiled bucket of shi^te!

It just goes to prove…. there’s a Brenda Power dumb ass in every country!

I laughed at the abortion bit. I dont know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Anyways, I am not going to think too much about this woman, she is an idiot. Unfortunately idiots will always exist so the best thing to do is to continue educating people that its ok to be gay and eventually her audience will grow smaller and smaller.

She's essentially a pantomine artist. My favourite quote from her is "Jews are just Christians that need to be perfected".

She relies entirely on humour and caustic dismissive put downs (which she has a talent for) rather than reason.

That really works on American television.

Until she meets someone whose funnier and more clever than her.

Watch Al Franken make her look like a moron on these clips.

There are probably clips more relevant to LGBT issues but I can't find them with a quick search.

Is there anything more disgusting than this woman? .

The answer is that there are lots of things more disgusting than "this woman".

Why read the article if you are going to be offended by it? My policy is life is not to take offence where it is not intended, and especially not to take offence where it is intended!

I don't want "gay marriage" I just want equality in marriage.

How would someone know if they were going to be offended by an article, without reading it first?

As for her comments, I'm not offended by them on account of not being gay - But I do find her wording obtuse, and lacking in tact.

I'm surprised you have to ask. Most of us read newspapers etc which flatter our opinions, and avoid ones which contradict us. Consequently, most of us know that reading publications which contradict us are to be avoided.

In any case, I am never offended by anything I read and am surprised that some are. Sometimes, I get the feeling some are looking to be offended and read an article fully hoping and expecting to be offended, so they can then give voice to the full magnitude of their offence!

It all seems like such a waste of energy going round being offended or looking to take offence.

i wouldn't pay any attention to her, she's a caustic hag who comes out with these whacky statements for shock value to further her persona and career as she has no real talent or substance.

The woman's an idiot, plain and simple. Attention seeking smallminded bigot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭shoegirl

She's right about the gay gene, which is why most gay groups have completely distanced themselves from any kind of research which indicates being gay has any biological cause.

GOProuds response to the story is quite interesting, although as of yet I haven't worked out what to make of it.

It's hard to believe someone could be so dementedly bigoted.
It seems she's trolling real life...she has to be some sort of stealth parody of far-right wingnuts..

Frankly, bringing an anti-gay speaker to a gay event says 'publicity stunt' to me.

She also once claimed that women should never have been given the vote

Would people who are in favour of abortion be in favour of a foetus being aborted because it was "gay"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,083 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Of course. Everyone knows you can't be in favour of abortion in certain situations without being completely pro-abortion in every conceivable way.

why do so many people still read/watch the crap that these poor loopy crackpots come out with when they need a bit of publicity for a book or lecture tour? talking about them or what they say is only feeding them and that is just as bad as believing the nonsense.
