Two Generalised Garmin/Navteq Navigation Issues

    I've created map reporter incidents but they have ignored them for over a year. These are general issues and not specific any particular location. See if you can reproduce them on your Garmin (mine is a Nuvi 670, fully up to date)

    Program this route next time you are on the M50 >>>
    M50 southbound, from N3-junction(6) ...to... N7-Junction(9) (i.e. Navan Rd to Red Cow)

    === Problem One ===
    As you approach junction(7) (Lucan etc) the countdown to the next turn drops to zero, you are told to keep right on the M50. Then it resumes with the countdown to Junction(9) ... Totally deceptive and confusing!
    I have come across this error many times on Irish motorways. For instance, on the way to Belfast, you get a similar error at Junction(2) and Junction(12) so the distance to the next turn is never correct until you get past Junction(12)

    === Problem Two ===
    At some point, you will see "an lar" and some other gibberish on the green status bar at the top of the screen. I don't understand this most of this stuff and you can be sure that tourists will be totally confused.
    I regularly come across this gaelic stuff when navigating to a destination, or simply when the satnav in on.

    Of course these may not be a navteq problems, and are garmin problems. Anyone any ideas how to report these errors to someone well up in the Garmin organisation.

    Yes, I remember that in the past Eirman. There are a few junctions on the m50, where they instruct you to keep right, and include it as a direction, where no keep right is really required, as it's a straight road. It's a little confusing and annoying. I wonder if these correlate to points where the m50 terminated when it was still being built? Remember they opened it up section by section?

    I'm, pretty sure that's it.

    As for the Irish placenames, I thought that had been sorted in recent map releases? OP, what map version do you have? The latest is 2011.2 (rather bizarrely seeing as it's still 2010 by my reckoning :))

    I have the latest maps (2011.20) and software. The motorway issue has been there for at least the past 3 years. It's not just an issue on the M1. There are similar problems on the M4.

    This issue has been there for the last 6 or 7 map and software updates, and will never be fixed unless a message can be gotten to the correct person in garmin or navteq. Anyone got any suggestions ?

    (You'll only spot the gaelic issue if you keep an eye on the green satus bar).

    Yea. I updated last week to the 2011.20 maps too. Was delighted with the free 'Update' thing.. until tonight trying to get home from Castleknock to Wicklow. It had me going around in circles trying to find the M50 southbound. Gave me directions for roundabouts that didn't exist. USELESS! What exactly did they update I wonder? Wouldn't it be nice if it actually gave you an idea what it updated. Only bought this Nuvi 1310 few months ago. I wonder what other surprises await me on the roads of Ireland.

    I'm going to try get some answers from Garmin..

    The two issues mentioned in post #1 seem to have been resolved.

    Do you mind if I ask how?

    Not on my Garmin 760 with the latest maps it hasn't!

    On the M1 navigating to belfast, my nuvi no longer ask me to keep right at junction 2 & 12. It now knows that the motorway is continuous. I assumed that if it had been fixed for the M1, that the same issues had been resolved for other motorways. Was I wrong in that assumption?

    The predominance of gaelic (on the green banner) has been reduced with bi-lingual gaelic/English versions. Sometimes it's all English, other times its all gaelic but not as often. eg... Going into to Dublin from Ardee in do see "Dr. Atha" to North. Who is this Doctor Atha?

    I guess the gaelgories still have their spoke in. The sooner that almost dead language is eliminated from satnavs for 98% of the Irish population and 100% of tourists, the better.

    I got this completely wrong .... I got about six false 'next turn' indicators on the M50 navigating out to Bray ... and I still get heaps of gaelic stuff.

    So these two serious issues remain
