Mick Foley made the following announcement on his twitter today…

I am thrilled to announce that I will be teaming up with Union Square Media to do a major movie based on my life story!

This really is a HUGE announcement for me - one that I hope you feel was worth waiting for.

    - Th following press release was also sent out today...
Union Square and American Original to Produce Feature Film Based on the Life Story of Professional Wrestler Mick Foley

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 /-- Union Square Agency (USSE Corp., Pink OTC Symbol: UCRP) will showcase the life story of one of the most hardcore wrestlers of all time, Mick Foley.

Union Square's Media division will produce the film with American Original founder Jeff Katz. Foley's managers, Michael Braverman and Barry Bloom, will also executive produce. Christopher J. Scott will be directing. The film, written by Scott and Foley, will tell the unmasked story of Mick's obsessive desire to become one of the most popular wrestling icons of all time. Foley is a New York Times bestselling and critically acclaimed author, having written two autobiographies, a series of children's books with a new memoir on the way called COUNTDOWN TO LOCKDOWN, from Grand Central Publishing launching on October 1st.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to finally bring my story to the screen. With Union Square as my tag-partner, I foresee many entertained and/or shocked audiences in our future," said Mick Foley.

Katz, who previously served as VP of Production at 20th Century Fox and New Line Cinema, founded the production company American Original. Their focus is to develop original and adapted film/ television properties and present them to the market place. Katz' credits include films such as SNAKES ON A PLANE, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, SHOOT EM UP, FREDDY VS. JASON and comics BOOSTER GOLD, CROSSHAIR and FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH.

"I spent three years in the wrestling industry before coming to Hollywood and always found Mick's story to be highly emblematic of the classic American success story. I've admired him as a man and entertainer for years and couldn't be more thrilled to return to my wrestling roots and help put Mick's story on film," said Jeff Katz.

Union Square Media has a reputation for cutting edge content and quality production in both the sports and lifestyle spaces. It is positioned to create, produce, develop and sell all forms of media with a progressive Emmy Award winning team.

"Mick's life story is an incredible journey that artfully balances his obsessive passion for the ring with the love for his family and friends around him. A story that is funny, shocking and inevitably triumphant. Both his existing fans and cinema fans alike will love it," said Director Christopher J. Scott.

Nice one! But now the question is, who is gonna play Mick? And who will be the other main characters - Terry Funk? Vince McMahon? Paul Heyman?

    Terry Funk

Perhaps the Funkster could play himself, he's been in plenty of flicks.. Including one of the greatest films of all time... Roadhouse..

    Vince McMahon..

    Maybe Mel Gibson?

    And Paul Heyman?

    Maybe Danny Devito:pac:

no no no no no! good god that would be all kinds of sh!te imo! The guy is one dimensional, actually not all that funny and is a contender with jonah hill and michael cera of being the most annoying movie "star" out at the moment! this sums up seth rogan perfectly:

Jack Black is being backed for the role on a different forum that I'm a member of. Wouldn't be a fan of him for the role.

I say just hire Christian Bale and let him put on a couple of stone, he's used to doing **** like that. :P

That part will be the straight to DVD sequel.

I wonder who will play me and kkv when he came to easons for the diaries :P
Ill try and get the guy who plays sock in reaper. He's a family friend. Owes us a favour.

In all seriousness I can't see many high profile actors (Mel gibson aside, lol) playing any of the more predominant characters, ie vince, heyman, the rock etc.

Actually the rock should play the rock. That'd be cool.

With the success of the wrestler this could do fairly well, only thing I'm concerned about is the budget and the actual scale of the whole thing.

Like are they going to book out an arena and recreate some of the more important in ring moments or will they use footage from such and then film the backstage segments?
Because if its the latter I can see vince demanding to be an exec producer for using the ecw and wwf videos.

Whoever does it needs to be able to portray the edgy, dangerous Foley from the early to mid 1990s. I really doubt Jack Black or somebody like him could do that. So avoid most established stars and pick somebody relatively unknown. His wife is a hottie too, so looking forward to seeing who plays her :D

Jack Black would be able to pull off Mick's comedy relief Mankind days but he wouldn't be able to pull off his dark and violent Cactus Jack and early Mankind days. I don't think Jack Black is capable of doing serious roles like that. Just the fat lovable loser.

It needs a proper serious actor if it is going to be well made. I can't see Jack Black in a death match as Cactus Jack in Japan somehow. Foley is a pretty complex character, it would need to be somebody with a wide range to pull it off. Hopefully they use Have A Nice Day as the basis for the film.

Without WWE being involved - which I assume they aren't - I wonder how much stuff they'll have to blur over in their portrayal of his WWF years.

Seth Rogen would be great for Foley's comedic moments but would probably fall short on everything else

Plus Rogan has lost a serious amount of weight for The Green Hornet flick..

And his ECW and WCW years which Vince owns the rights to as well.
