    Hi,

Would a mobile phone bill and maybe bank statements be considered utility bills? I will be applying for student maintenance grant next year and was wondering if these would suffice.

    Thanks

Nope. They want proof that you are living independently. Bank statements and mobile phone bills won't suffice.

I think it really means gas, electricity or landline bills but I would say they should be ok - basically keep everything that's a bill or proof of address

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

depends on what you want to prove. nearly everyone has a phone bill or bank account.

i think that utility in the case of the grant means those bills that fix you to a place at a certain time.

the more paper work the merrier.

dont do as others and submit the minimum ...have every scrap of paper with your name and address

They're generally going to be looking for bills which tie you to a specific address -- landline phone, electricity, gas, etc.

As a rule of thumb, the more documentation you have the better. I always approach with an ESB bill, bank statement, a recent HSE correspondance, as well as two photo IDs: Passport and my Learner's Permit (formerly known as a Provisional Drivers License)
