Protecting a shared folder

    Hi all,

I want to sync my data to another pc on the work network, but I also want to password protect it.

We all use the same username & password on this shared "backup" pc. I know if we logged in as different users, I could add a password to the folder, but that's not possible at the moment.

How can I backup to this machine, and still password protect my data (it's running xp by the way)?

    Thanks,
    M

If it's a standalone workgroup PC, the simple answer is: create your own account (ie not shared), have a directory on the machine to which only your account has access, and copy your files to there instead of the shared area to which everyone has access.

If it's a work machine, I'm confused as to why you're not able to push for having individual, named accounts. It would make it easier to avoid Data Protection Act issues, for a start - because you wouldn't be in a position of telling people to store potentially confidential data on a system that can be accessed in a manner that doesn't leave any usable audit trail.
