We've been hearing bird screeching between 11:00 and midnight in recent nights.
Just repeated short (1-2 sec) screeches.
We wondered about owls - any ideas, experts ?

They are barn owls, I grew up near Newtownmountkennedy in 80's and was lucky enough that have Barn owls around the house for many years, and they would often screech, in fact I read somewhere that barn owls were know in some locailites as screech owls.

Got to be barn owls. Can't remember the last time I saw one, let alone heard the screeching. They're incredibly beautiful though. You're lucky, would love to have them around.

Yes, Barn Owls, sometimes also known as Screech Owls, although there is an owl called Screech Owl in the US.
