attic conversion

    im going to convert my attic, my wuestion is is my attic suitable to convert without any reinforcing, my rafters and joists ar 8x2 and spaced 550mm apart, im going to put in a stairs would it be ok to cut one joist to fit the stairs and how would i reinforce it after i cut away some of the joist would it also be safe to move the collars up a few inches to get extra head room ive attached a crude sketch of the rafter and joist

    That is a structural question which the forum charter does not allow us to answer, even if we had enough information.
