    1 litre, 56K miles
I have checked carzone and it can vary from 2,500 to 3,000 euro. Buying from a friend also, any one have an idea what should offer and stick to, I realise its fairly general ,just the guy hardly ever drives it, so it is in good nick in fairness to him...He was looking for 3K..

(Not sure if this is right thread)

My girlfriend recently got a 00 or 01 (cant remember which) 1.4 Polo for €1800. It had more miles on it than that but it was in excellent condition, and had a full service history including receipts for all the work done the car, including a full service, timing belt, new tires etc only a few months ago.

Id probably start with €2000 and not look to go much above that tbh.

Oh and drive it before you buy it. I believe the 1L engine is rather underpowered in the Polo. Personally I wouldnt be bothered with anything under a 1.2 engine in that car.

A 1 litre Polo is slower than cycling. And for 2 and a half grand you can do so much better.
How about a Leon? Forget the "oh but that's a 1.4", it'll cost you no more to run and is safer and way more comfortable and better looking and better value.

I can't comment on the car itself, but beware buying from a friend - the old story of mixing business and friendship you know...

Clutch pedal box was a weak point on these, If there's any difficulty of stiffness in the pedal be wary.

And 3k is crazy money for a 9 year old 1l hatchback, IMO.

€2,500 is way, way too much, €3,000 is cloud-cuckoo land. (The car is nearly 10 years old, FFS)

I know the VAG heads like their cars, but such a car is worth €1,500, max.

(And if he/she fails to sell it to you for that, go elsewhere, you'll pick up a fine car for that money.)

Crazy money indeed, those 1.0's are extremely slow and not all that economical either, i started off with one so i should know..

For a good bit less than that you'd get a 1.4 golf of similar age, which does'nt even have a great engine either being honest, but is a much more modern and safer, and better looking car. Heck for 3 grand, you'd get a TDi Golf, although i assume the mileage and high road tax cant justify a diesel?
