    Hi

Many years ago we got a limestone fireplace fitted, at the time we had to sign a form stating that we would not light a solid fuel fire in it.

There has been a gas inset in it since but we were considering fitting a solid fuel inset stove, but I'm not sure is it a heat reason or what that we signed the form for.

Just wondering has anyone come across this kind of problem before and what solution if any there is..

    Cheers

    hi bryan,

I wanted a limestone fireplace in my house when building but woman in shop told me, most definitely not to buy one if I want solid fuel.. she said it destroys the fireplace and the marks/stains from smoke cannot come out.. i don't know if it damages the fireplace other than this but if i was you I'd ring a major fireplace shop and ask exactly what your dealing with, be shame to ruin such a beautiful fireplace

    Thanks for the reply Misty

I rang the crowd that we bought it off and they knew about as much as me.

Yes that makes sense it would be easily be ruined with smoke etc, back to the drawing board so. :(
