Feckin vandals!...argh!

    Hi there,
So I noticed on Sunday that on Saturday night some vandals had pulled off and smashed the wing mirror off my new car. Just got it, brand new Renault Megane.

No idea who did it, reported it to the guards, obviously very little they can do as I've no idea who/what time etc.

So called up the insurance, I have fully comp. They say if I claim it'll be a €450 excess and 2 years off my no claims. Not sure if that is fair given that it's not down to my negligent driving or anything. Any thoughts on that, do I have any recourse?

Anyone any ideas on how much fixing this would cost roughly?... I have the mirror, but the mirror itself is smashed, as is the casing, so not sure if that's any use at all.

Any feedback would be great, thanks.

Not worth the claim tbh seeing as you have such a high excess.
Just get it done at your own cost. Shouldnt be to bad

what insurance company are you with?? the excess fair enough but the NCB for something not your fault seems a bit much! im pretty sure my insurance company doesnt touch NCB for fire, theft or vandalisim

......... im pretty sure my insurance company doesnt touch NCB for fire, theft or vandalisim

Maybe they don't but try to move to a different insurer and you'll find such claims would count against you.

An electric mirror for a new(ish) megane is around 180 i think, best to just ring your dealer and find out though.

Whatever it costs, youre better off to pay it out of your own pocket. Its not worth having a claim on your policy for the sake of a few hundred quid.

Try have your car flipped on its side by drunken idiots. Worse when ye can see them doin it but not get out to them on time.

I had an old 1974 VW Beetle a few years back that I restored in a "Cal Look" (Google it for history of Cal Look). I got really nice California style number plates (black background, yellow digits like the 60' & 70's California plates. This was in the says before NCT. Every Garda used to pull me in for a look at the car & a chat about the restoration, it was a very noticeable car.
Anyway some toe rag stole my rear number plate, fecker! Hate that kind if stuff.

I don't know what possible satisfaction these scumbags can gain from vandalism. I bet if they owned their own car, they'd think twice about it.

a friend of mine saw 2 lads trying to nic his car one night, landed the 2 lads in hospital and himself in court, got the judge on a good day who appoligised to him for the inconvienience:D

Ok so maybe its not quite vandalism but something that really ticks me off is people banging the side of your car with their doors!!
I like to think I look after my motor fairly well, washing and polishing it every week, and for some twat to come along and leave a substantial dint in my door just makes me wonder what they were thinking?!?!

    You have very high excess.
I actually doubt that mirror would cost more then 450, so pretty much even if you claim, you will have to pay full amount. This makes claiming completely nonsence.

As that is own car damage claim, you will obviously loose NCB. It doesn't matter if damage was done by you or someone else.
You are claiming off your insurance, then you loose your NCB. It's simple as that.

Some companiesie don't touch NCB for fire and theft claims.
But I'm pretty sure all will take your NCB for own car damage claims, no matter if damage was done by owner, or someone else (unknown).

I know a lad who did something similar; came out of Time to find someone trying to knick his car, did his very best to put your mans head thru the door of the car.

I carry cricket bats in my car (because I play cricket, not because Im a thug!). It scares me to think what I would do if I ever caught someone trying to steal my car, it really does.

I had my car keyed once. Don't know how did it. Came home from hanging out with friends when I seen it. Got it respainted. Its red so all the White under coat was noticeable. I love that punto.
