The History Channel HD on UPC only being broadcast in SD??

I was just flicking through the channels yesterday when a programme on The History HD channel caught my eye,

After a minute or two I thought that it was not HD resolution as it did not seem crystal clear, then I noticed that there was no HD caption on the Logo,(there usually is for all HD channels), I then checked it against the SD History channel and could not see the difference between the HD & SD pictures.

Does anyone know why the station being listed as the History HD channel is only being broadcast in SD?

Many programmes on History are actually upscaled SD content, mostly because it's historical content.

Usually all HD channels have HD in there logo, the history channel was the only one not to state HD.

It is no different on SkyHD....the channel has a lot of upscaled content.

I am sure that they drop the History HD logo when showing upscaled content, which I believe all channels should do. I know that Sky and ITV do this also.

I have checked the History channel on numerous occassions over the past few days & not once has the HD logo been on screen, even when the listings state that a programme is being broadcast in HD.



I have sent a mail to UPC to query if it is being broadcast in HD or not, I will post the reply here once received.

Watched Ice-road truckers last night and no HD logo, also at break it said also available in HD,

Still awaiting a reply from UPC 1 Week later even thought they say they hope to respond within three days.

How long does it take to give a simple answer to a simple question ?? There customer service is dreadful.

While watching the History HD channel recently I have noticed that it no longer has the HD icon on screen & the Picture quality seems to be only of SD standard.

As I said in another thread you're just after posting in, some programs are displaying the History HD logo, not all.

This is not a matter for UPC, but for the History chanel who are obviously upscaling SD content.

This is a UPC issue, Ice road truckers on SKY had the HD logo (a friend of mine confirmed this), while on UPC it did not

Why would the SKY have the HD logo & the UPC not have it??

I'm sure this problem was with History channel, rather than UPC. What I would guess is that the HD encoder for History Channel developed a fault and whilst they were awaiting for it to return from the repair shop, they sent SD history Channel out instead.
When this problem first came to light, UPC would have checked to make sure the source feed was the correct one. Once the service ID is correct, then it means the issue is with the broadcaster rather than UPC. UPC check these boards regularly so it would have been picked up ages ago and dealt with as much as can be done.

History HD is full of upscaled content...this is certainly not a UPC issue, it's the same on SkyHD.

History HD is now back !

I have checked the History HD channel over the past few days and it now constantly has the HD logo on, picture quality is noticeable better.
