MAKE UP

I'm not a girlie girl - I wear the minimum makeup I can - usually a tinted moisturiser and some mascara.

I toyed with getting my make up done at one of the counters on the wedding day - opting for the least amount of fuss, but having had a trial done at two of them and ending up a cross between a drag queen and a clown I think it's a mistake.

So - I'm not looking for any recommendations for a make up artist that will come to the house the morning of the wedding - does not cost a FORTUNE and who will do regular make up for regular girls......... a KEY POINT - I have very bad skin/acne on my chin and jaw line - so someone with experience in this area would be helpful...........

I'd appreciate anyones recommendations based on experiences themselves.

    THANK YOU
    (DUBLIN AREA)

I don't wear much makeup either, just wanted my makeup done enough so that i didn't look like a ghost in the photos. I was really happy with the girl who did it for me. Her website is http://www.alysonmakeup.com (I have no affiliation with her, just thought she did a great job).

She charged 260 for 4 people (coming to the house). The trial was free if you go to her house for it.

Another tip would be to look at the portfolio pictures on the websites of makeup artists, you'll get an idea of the sort of styles they do.

Might I suggest that as you are not used to makeup, you may feel like the above but it might not necessarily be true?
Did you ask these girls to do a natural, bridal look for you?
I did much the same as yourself, got a girl in Brown Thomas to do my make up. I watched what she was doing, bought the make up and did it myself on the day.
    It worked out grand.

Have you looked at youtube at all?
There a loads of make up artists showing how to apply different kinds of looks.

I'm probably even worse than you, don't wear make-up unless I'm going for a proper night out and even then it's only foundation and maybe eyeshadow.

I was worried about looking completely different but I got my make-up done by Sarah from http://www.mobilemakeupbysarah.com and it was brilliant. It was really natural looking and she was really nice to have around on the morning of the wedding. At the trial she tried a couple of looks to make sure I was really happy with the one I chose.

She even ended up doing my hair because I wanted that really simple too. It's not something she normally does but loads of people commented on how nice it was.

Considering what you have mentioned about your skin I would highly recommend vichy dermablend. It is the best makeup I have ever worn and I have tried a lot because I love my makeup. For my wedding day I bought 3 different shades and brought all to the beauticians and has everyones makeup done with it.

The makeup is designed for people with skin problems and sensitivity, it is slightly heavier than some but is absolutely stunning on. I would recommend trying it out before the day.

Also, assuming you are having photos taken I would highlu recommend using a powder over it, or any makeup for that matter. Any light or flash on your skin without powder can give a bit of a shine which is not in any way flattering so no matter what whether transluscent or whatever, powder on the day. I do have some recommendations for makeup so if you want any pm me, I have worked alongside a few makeup artists and have 2 or 3 that I would highly recommend.

I got a voucher for a free Dior makeover in Debenhams... went in yesterday and somehow accidentally ended up at the wrong counter getting the wrong makeover :D but it was amazing.

I never ever ever wear makeup... and told her this... told her I want it to be as close to my colouring as possible but just to emphasise it... she kept asking me questions all along and I was completely honest if I didn't like anything and she changed it. She did one side of my face and then got me to do the other. Honestly, I couldn't stop looking in the mirror all night :D it was brilliant. Even my other half who reckons he doesnt' like make up lol was telling me how great I looked. It was Bare Minerals. Apparently it's really good for your skin and all that crap lol. But yep, I reckon I could do it myself on the day.

I too am having this dilemma. I only ever wear mascara and lip gloss and genuinely have NO idea how to apply foundation or even eyeshadow, and the couple of times I've allowed female friends to get their hands on my face, I've always felt awkward and really hated the way it felt on my skin.

BUT I am also aware that I am not likely to look good in photos otherwise...

    ARGH!

Female friends aren't necessarily professional make up people... just suck it up and go into the department stores... some of them are free... others charge but can redeem the cost on purchases. It's well worth it... go to them all if you want and get as many tips as possible.
