    hey all

I'm looking at buying a freelander 2.0 diesel and get it at a good price if I can get it started,

the owner informs me the battery went low and the alarm went off, she removed the fuses, left it for a while.

she put in a new battery and went to start it no joy, so had a look at it last night, changed the startermotor and glow plug relay, and tested the glow plugs, still no joy.

theres fuel getting through from what I can see, so is it something I'm missing or is it a worn ECU I wonder?

    any ideas would be great.

open one of the injector pipes and see does diesel squirt out when you turn the engine over. it could possibly be an imobilizer fault if you havent got diesel at the injectors. that engine has two timing belts, one for the camshaft and the other one is for the injector pump on the gearbox side of the engine, there is a posibility the injector pump belt could have broken if you havent got diesel at the injectors

if you have diesel at the injectors its not immobilised. its kinda looking like a mechanical fault with then engine such a blocked exhaust or incorrect valve timing. ill be shot for this sugestion but if you gave it a sniff of easy start will it fire?

I dont know, didnt try that, but your one who owns it got it towed to a garage today and will know the problem/s soon, and sww what it is, I'll be interested to see what it is myself.

thought that with the diesel at injectors alright

These engines usually won't start when they blow head gaskets due to lack of compression.

They do blow on the diesels alright, but admittedly not as often as the K-series petrol
