It's like a higher version than the normal driver licence, I know they've got them in england, you get money off insurance ect if you've got one

AFAIK there is only one driving licence issued in the UK by the DVLA (apart from motor-sport competition licences issued by the MSA - http://www.msauk.org/custom/asp/home/default.asp).

I think you might mean the certificate / test / membership run by the Institute of Advanced Motorists - http://www.iam.org.uk/members_benefits_summary/memberbenefitssummary.html (note the benefits listed on the page)

There is an Institute of Advanced Motorists in Ireland, which seems to be a commercial operation and the IAM is a long-time registered charity in the UK. There are no claims of affiliations between the two similarly-named organisations that I can see and they seem to serve different (though related) purposes.

Several posters have mentioned IAM and RoSPA. But check with your insurance company if they give a discount and how much. These courses are not cheap and can have an annual fee.

If you pass the IAM advanced driving test, then aviva will give you 30% off for life on your insurance renewal.
Basically meaning that you do not have to keep subscribing to the IAM (currently about €33)to get the discount.
