I just changed the spark plugs on my car and now the engine management light has come on. the plugs are in fairly tight. I didnt change the gap on the spark plug, would that be the problem?

Its an 01 almera. Just put back in the old spark plugs and the light is still on. This light only came on when I took out the spark plugs. Heres the ones Im using http://www.neobrothers.co.uk/images/saab%20spark%20plug.jpg

NGK's should be fine I'm thinking, but if you can, try pick up some Denso spark plugs from a local motor factor. They're better for Jap motors, and also ensure all of your plug leads are going from the correct port on the distributor to the right plug.

Is the light flashing or is there any odd noises? The plugs might not have the right gapping for your engine. Unlikely but possible.

No light flashing and or funny noises from what I can gather, just back after driving it for a couple of miles and the distrubtor leads are definitly in correct. Is driving grand And the old spark plugs were also NGK's.
    What else could it be?

Is the car shuddering or hesitating on idle...?

I should have added that I put a Mass air flow meter this morning as my mechanic plugged it into the computer and that was the fault code that came up. I had previously complained of the car chugging and lack of power. This is well known on almeras apprantly. But the car is driving grand now. Just find it pecuilar that when i was changing the spark plugs this came on. Never came on before.

    Were the plugs BKR5E-11?

Im not too sure, why is there something up with that part number? Even if that was part number, my "old ones" should still work. As I said before this light only came on when I decided to change the plugs. However would it be possible that when changing a Mass air flow meter that initially the light may come on to indicate that a new sensor has been put in and that a reset when hooked up to the computer is required to get rid of the light. I could be talking out of me arse there, I dont know.

Yes they are the recommended type for the Almera, not too sure what the implications would be of putting an incorrect set in would they cause any issue that would remain when you put the old set back in.
