tethering on 3 prepay enabling hint

    Hopefully I am not the last person on the forum to discover this hint. I have been struggling to get my 3gs (ios 4.0.1) tethering enabled for several weeks. The trick appears to be to open itunes just before you enable tethering on the phone. Open itunes and it works, close itunes and the tethering terminates!!:D

    Maybe this information will be of help to somebody else.

    Ummmmm, what? When I want to use "tethering", I turn it on in settings/general/network/Internet tethering. No need of any "trick".

    I just switched to 3 yesterday, and can't get the internet 3g to work. I have an iphone 3g and using the settings
    APN-3ireland.ie
    User-(blank)
    Password-(blank)

    and nothing. I can't get anything!! I have 2gb going to waste.

    Have you updated the carrier settings? That will put in all the correct apn details correctly itself, but you won't be able to change it yourself.

    No-Havnt updated any carrier settings. I remember doing it myself for vodafone a while back.
    I've been searching through the forums for answers-but nothing really Three specific. I have mms settings.

    If you got it yesterday, and you're not going to jailbreak, put it on iTunes and run the check to see if the firmware is the latest. If it updates to 4.1, it will also install the latest carrier file for 3.

    Change your APN to 3internet
